It was hard to follow at first, bit of a slow read but I began to enjoy at the end when everything came together.

I’m so glad I chose this book because it is such an amazing story. The author was great at telling stories and providing background information on the lives of the characters as well. The performances were great too. If this is a first novel, can’t wait to read the next one.

As Ugandan Indians we rarely see our stories told, let alone told with the complexity needed to do justice to our experience. Oza has done an absolutely beautiful job of carrying the past forward. I am so grateful for her work and am blown away that this is her debut novel. A great read for anyone interested in the history or who simply wants to sink their teeth into a fantastically written and narrated story.

I found the constant jumping from one character to another resulted in me caring very little about any of them. Only because this was selected by my book club did I bother to finish it. On a positive note, I did learn something new about the history of Uganda.
