About this listen

This first three full novels in Catherine Gayle's Lord Rotheby's Influence series....

Twice a Rake

When Aurora Hyatt loses her journal in Hyde Park, her ruin is a foregone conclusion. If anyone discovers her writings, they'll find scandalous fantasies involving the newest rake in town alongside entirely-too-candid thoughts about her typical dreary suitors. Aurora will either be forced into a loveless marriage with the first nodcock to make an offer, or she'll be assigned a permanent position on the shelf. What catastrophe will God smote down upon her next?

Saving Grace

The blasted man will not stop following her. Well, he isn't following her...not exactly. They are just always thrown together, and he's everything she wants but can't have. It is downright infuriating - especially when he kisses her.

Merely a Miss

Miss Jane Matthews feels completely out of place amongst the finery of the ton. She's the daughter of a country vicar, for goodness sake, and nearly a spinster to boot. But when her distant cousin - a dowager duchess, of all people - offers to sponsor her for a season in London, she agrees, but only so she can search for a storefront for her business. Perhaps, in that regard the season won't all be in vain.

The main characters are interesting and I found them at times relatable. I enjoyed various aspects of their romance. The secondary characters were interesting and many of them added to fabric of the story. I didn’t enjoy the fact that the main characters didn’t communicate the important things with the other. It ran throughout the story and it got old fairly quickly for me. I’m curious to see how the next book in the series goes.

Alex and Grace are interesting, captivating characters. I enjoyed much of their exchanges and time on page together. Their romance is sweet and fitting for these characters. I enjoyed many of the secondary characters – particularly the Hardwickes and Grace’s aunt and uncle. They added much to the fabric of the story. There were aspects of the story that I wish had been done differently.

Peter and Jane are interesting, relatable, captivating characters. I enjoyed their romance and their on page exchanges. Peter’s family and children added to the fabric of the story. The mystery subplot was interesting and added a bit of spice to the story. I enjoyed this story the best of series. I wish that we had gotten more from the epilogue than we did.

The author is obsessed with the idea of a woman embracing r*ape. As if a woman would love to be treated in the most awful fashion day in and day out and embrace being physically forced into procreating every single evening.
Not one character in this entire book possesses a single redeemable quality.
That this man, who yells and threatens physical violence and screams insults during EVERY single interaction, without cease, would convince himself he's actually in love with his bride is beyond upsetting.
This author sells books in bundle because no one would buy a second.
It was truly traumatic. Traumatic enough to press me to write my first review.

R*pe fantasy. Sickening.
