Publisher's Summary

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world....

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords....

The Chapters Are In Order

I saw a lot of reviews saying how the chapters are not in order. I have a copy of the book at home, so I took a picture of each chapter to make sure the audio book was in order. The chapters are in order.
This was definitely my favorite book so far!!

Great and well done!

The narrator is amazing! I liked that he does different voices for each character and has a really clear speaking tone that is easy to understand. The story is legendary! I liked it a lot, I haven't seen the show yet, but this was a great way to hear the story everyone has raved about. Don't wait, get it today!

Roy Dotrice narration of the GOT series’s the best I’ve ever heard . The novels are even better than HBO show.

Old reviews discourage new listeners

The chapters are in order! All the reviews claiming otherwise are old. Audible was fixing the problem in 2018. As of my listening (2023), there are NO issues with the chapters or their layout.

The book itself is a wonderful tale, a fantastic chess game with so many players and unexpected turns. the immense run time hardly feels a burden as the pacing only ebbs enough to enthrall anew with every twist.

Sometimes Less is More

I am not referring to the length of the book. The book is as long as it needs to be. I am talking about the narrator. He uses a lot of obnoxious voices and it takes you out of the story. It's a distraction.

But here is what is really irritating: he can't pronounce a large number of the names. Gendry is "gentry". Brienne is "BRI-een". Petyr is "Puh-Tire". I think he also gets Varys wrong, but I can't quite recall.

If half the characters sounding like pirates or hearing "Brienne" and "Petyr" repeatedly pronounced incorrectly are deal breakers for you, it's a HARD pass. If not, it's an excellent book.

A masterpiece

What more can I say? It felt like just yesterday that I was writing my raving review for book 2. This entry from 2000 is easily one of the most imaginative, in depth and well thought out stories not just in fantasy but in general. I love it from beginning to end. Jon’s storyline, Tyrion’s, SAMWELL, this book is so great and I would take the audiobooks over GoT any day! RIP Roy Dotrice

Roy Dotrice is Amazingly Talented

So well read, incredible all the different voices and accents to distinguish the many characters. Highly recommended it.

incredible

This was an amazing experience, the 37 hour runtime could have been twice as long and still not be enough!
