About this listen

The official prequel leading into the upcoming Aliens cooperative third-person survival shooter video game, Aliens: Fireteam, from Cold Iron Studios.

Dr. Timothy Hoenikker arrives on Pala Station, a Weyland-Yutani facility. Lured there by the promise of alien artifacts, instead he finds a warped bureaucracy and staff of misfits testing the effects of Xenomorph bio-materials on living creatures. Unbeknownst to the personnel, however, there is an infiltrator among them whose actions could spell disaster.

Also on staff is Victor Rawlings, a former marine who gathers together other veterans to prepare for the worst. As the personnel receive a delivery of alien eggs, the experiments spin out of control, and only the former Colonial Marines can stand between the humans and certain death.

I was in the space action, and this was satisfying. It's not great art but that's not the expectation. The reader is very good. I think he read Matterhorn, which I liked (a Vietnam War novel.) I am also listening to prepare to play the Colonial Marines video game for Xbox, it was nice that this book was free with membership if you're in the mood for aliens go for it

This might be my favorite Alien novel so far. It has all of the tropes and beats you expect, but it tells a somewhat more human story than most. It's great as a lead-up to the Fireteam Elite game, as well. Not a perfect story, by any means, but a very solid addition to the franchise.

A surprisingly refreshing take on the Alien franchise.

Bronson Pinchot did a great job narrating this book. It had a solid storyline and characters. I really enjoyed the exploration of themes like culpability, responsibility, scientific hubris, self reflection and transformation. 6/5 stars!

Masterful production!

Great prequel to the video game absolutely fills in some of the lore blanks. I thought the narrator was good although his female voices were weak, but that's not super surprising or unexpected. The story was a lot of fun and for extra credit you can try to count how many times they say "Colonial Marines".

A must if you play Aliens:fireteams
