Publisher's Summary

Animal Farm, one of the great social satires of our century, is based upon modern Eastern European history. First published in 1945, it is the classic fable of the utopian dream and the corruptive influences of power. When the animals at Manor Farm revolt against their master, Mr. Jones, their goal is to take over the farm and establish an ideal community based on hard work, honesty, and the equality of all animals. Guided by the memory of Old Major's utopian vision and the seven commandments, Animal Farm, as the animals have renamed it, briefly fulfills the ideal. Memories are short, however, and soon - through manipulation and aggression by those who assume power - the farm's founding principles are slowly eroded and abolished.

Decades after its debut, Animal Farm is still a relevant and powerful tale of how blind allegiance to political leaders leads to ruin.

Classic

The audio is pretty rough by today's standards, but it was in the 80s, so I suppose that's fair. Other than the crackling and people talking in the background throughout most of it, this was a great reading of a classic story. Very profound social commentary for that time that still holds up today... unfortunately.

What a great piece of classic literature

This tale makes you really consider aspects of society and point of view.

The deceiving truth of deception and the feeling of being gaslit and manipulated for someone else’s gain.

Wonderful listen!

The story we need today RIGHT NOW in Canada.

Why did communism fail to deliver on its promises? What if we elected coworkers instead of celebrities?

I'm 200 audio books in , this one is in my top 5

narrations was phenomenal, George Orwell's writing a master peice, and Happy it was free ( for Audible members )

There's a few loos ends I wish they expanded on more but the vaugness of those ends ( the fate of snowball) leave it to the readers mind.

beautiful short story, definitely a world were this is expanded on a fleshed out more.

while listening I couldn't stop from coming back to hear what comrad Napoleon chose to do with his dictatorship.
