The Forge of God described the destruction of Earth itself by self-replicating robots, Von Neumann machines designed to use the planet's mass to create more robotic creatures and spread throughout the Galaxy. Mostly dull and boring

The last quarter is quite interesting, but that leaves the first three quarters, which was mostly about how the characters interacted socially and felt about themselves. If you like this kind of thing then you might like the whole book, but I found the majority of the book dull and boring.
