Verne the genius

An Amazing thriller by Jules Verne. “An edge of the seat” climax and subtle flavour of romance. Extremely well narrated.

The most terrible narration I’ve heard

This narration sounds as though it is computer generated. The voice was mechanical, unmeasured, and inflection-less. Just awful. I am so disappointed to have wasted my money on this audio book.

Can't stand the narrator

American accent a mild detraction, but the frequent mispronunciation of words was a deal breaker. Which is a pity, because I really like this book.

This man should never read aloud!

He pauses after every sentence and with earphones it is extremely annoying. You can hear him inhale and smack his lips. There is even a crackling sound in the recording that forced me to stop listening after only a few minutes. This was a total waste of money and time for the download.

Mispronunciations were distracting.

pretty good job of narration except for the continued mispronunciation of several words (propitious and similar words).

Inadvertent Comedy

We listened with the kids on a road trip. Classic, enjoyable story for the family. However, as others have noted, the performance leaves a lot to be desired. He must narrate movie trailers, as that's exactly how this book is delivered. The tone and cadence are especially awkward for a Victorian novel. And the many mispronunciations throughout eventually had us laughing out loud. I downloaded this because it was so cheap. Don't make the same mistake.

Definitely Not a Disney Movie

Entertaining on several levels, including the narrator's mangling of the words Calais, lugubrious, propitious, loquacious, mariner, and colique.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

If there were zero stars, I would give this narrator ZERO STARS! A total waste of time. Don't blame Jules Verne. He wrote a fine story. But the narration is so mechanical and awful, I think it's actually an AI reader. Trust me, don't waste your time or money. There are over a dozen classic novels read by this fake-name narrator. Avoid them. They're awful.

Did not enjoy the pronunciation

I just did not enjoy the very strong Midwestern American accent. And the way in which foreign words were butchered was quite upsetting.

incorrect history

the author gave biased and incorrect information about the "mormon" religion. It makes me wonder how much of the information about other groups, was incorrect.
