Publisher's Summary
A young girl recounts her girlhood and eventual marriage to a general of the Mexican revolution. By one of the most outstanding writers of the new feminist Mexican literature, it is at once a haunting novel of one woman's life and a powerful account of post-revolutionary Mexico from a female perspective.

Great Story, Well-Read
The novel is one of Mexico's most important of the 20th Century. If you are familiar with the many Latin American pieces about history's great characters-- caudillos, generales, coroneles-- in books like "Los de abajo" and "La muerte de Artemio Cruz," this one reads like a feminist response told from the perspective of the wife of an aspiring post-Mexican-Revolution political figure. The novel has an engaging, easy-to-follow style. Plus the narration in this audiobook is, in my opinion, great. I listened to this one completely in one great unproductive day. Finally, I suggest you get this and then watch the movie of the same name. I understand that it was Mexico's most expensive production and a roaring success. I'm not a fan of these types of novels, but after having read, listened, and watched it, I definitely think that it is worth a (re)visit.

Narrator does not capture the essence due to wrong accent
This important Mexican novel needs to be narrated by someone with a Mexican accent. This narrator is not Mexican and she misses the texture of the novel in Spanish. She sounds like her accent is Spanish/Iberian.

Story and Reader were excellent but…
It would have been better if the audible chapters matched the chapters in the book.

Good narrator.
Awesome narrator. The story didn't captivate me, I thought Catalina was going to run away with Carlos or do something interesting or risky or confront Andres, but it never happened.

Excelente historia.
