Hugo Award Winner for Best Series

Auberon is one of the first and most important colony worlds in humanity's reach, and the new conquering faction has come to claim it. Governor Rittenaur has come to bring civilization and order to the far outpost and guarantee the wealth and power of the Empire.

But Auberon already has its own history, a complex culture, and a criminal kingpin named Erich with very different plans. In a world of deceit, violence, and corruption, the greatest danger Rittenaur faces is love.

It’s the thing people who like the show forget

That it’s the writing and the social observation that make these books so damn good.

The story is good, but so are hundreds of others. These books are some of the best science fiction ever bc of the page-by-page writing, not the plot.

If only it were longer...

Well that was spectacular. Painfully brief. I regret not having listened to it before moving on to book 8 - it's an excellent little snapshot of what Laconian rule over the colony worlds is like, what the colony worlds' societies are like, and as usual the immaculate world building is skillfully unveiled through the lens of focused and engaging storytelling and characters. It's series like The Expanse that make me think the timeless literary classics of the modern day, the stuff of genius that defines the medium, isn't the high-brow academic stuff that you might find lauded in journals and classrooms - it's the popular, pulpy, nerdy genre stuff like this that will live on. IMO this series and it's authors should be household names.

Not sure if this was necessary

It ties some loose ends but not sure if there is really much value in it. I could've not know and that would be fine. I still enjoyed it.

wish the novellas were a little cheaper

Story and performance were great as always, just wish the novellas didn't take a full credit.

Interesting back ground story

It is great that Mr Corey created these sub stories as it gives a great background to the worlds he has created. Even though a short story this is a great filler to this world explaining and filling out the major novels. I say enjoy. And Mr Corey please keep writing.

Definitely Worth It

Enjoyed this novella immensely. It did not evolve as I thought it would. The characters were invested and interesting.

Excellent

This is the greatness I have come to respect about Mr. Corey. Only thing I could ask for would be for more length.
His Characters are so well described and believable.
And as usual Jefferson Mayes is Perfect.

Some Meds in Your Sugar

I love it when otherwise mindless brain candy surprises me with a thoughtful if not deep question. Happens in this book.
