Publisher's Summary

Company’s coming!

Just when Baron Minalan the Spellmonger figured out there was a slim chance to restore his mind-shattered wife, Alya (if he's willing to journey to the undercaverns of Olum Seheri, the lair of Korbal the Necromancer), things start to go awry: not only does Prince Tavard, his unloved liege lord, decide to conduct an official state visit to Sevendor on pilgrimage to the Everfire on the Briga's feast day, but a mysterious seamage appears at his door with an intriguing offer from the Sea Folk who rule Callidore: They want to buy snowstone. An entire mountain of it.

Between feuding factions of Alka Alon and the contentious nobility of his own kingdom, Minalan is already in arcane intrigue up to his pointy hat, but when the foremost wizard of the age has problems, he also has resources. Before the pilgrimage concludes it sets mighty actions in their courses, and even the gods elect to intervene publicly in Minalan's life.

Minalan realizes that he has little choice but to consider an impossible quest into the heart of his enemy's realm, to the caverns of the dead, themselves, if he is to resolve the many conflicts in play. He must recover an ancient artefact of the Sea Folk known as the Handmaiden, and in order to do so he will have to organize the most audacious raid on the most horrific foe in humanity's history on Callidore! Who else but Minalan the Spellmonger has the magic stones to challenge the undead might of the Necromancer!

10 books worth of world building pays off

I'm a bit of a late comer to this series. I've had the pleasure of bingeing it while at work at a mindless labour job and the world building in this series is absolutely enthralling.

This book there are some huge payoffs from things mentioned as far back as the first book which really tells you that the author has thought out the whole broad story and created something truly amazing.

Great work Terry, you're easily one of my favorite authors. :)

Love it, more please, write faster!

**Spoiler Alert***

I love the implications of this actually being a crazy SciFi story... So good. I was hoping that you would go this direction when I first heard the stuff about the techa. After this crazy war I would love to hear stories about Captain Spellmonger. So epic. Also, I dig the idea of him becoming immortal and hearing these stories about him experiencing ages and his perspective of the whole thing. I don't want him to become a god or anything. Just an immortal dude with waxing and waning power as he discovers more and more of the universe around him. Eventually maybe he's all powerful on Calidor, but in space he's a nobody. Then maybe he leverages his new home base on Calidor to become a power in his region of space, but then he discovers worm holes, and he's a nobody again. The future possibilities are endless and I want to hear it all please never stop!

It keeps getting better!

After 10 books you'd wonder if there was still more story to listen to without going over the same bumps and curves and becoming stale.
luckily this is not the case, the world of the Spellmonger just becomes more detailed and involved creating an imaginative real world that I want to continue delving into.

back to form!

this book was fantastic. I hit a wall with the series around book 8 and really struggled to read the next book, but this one made up for all of it. if you are thinking about giving up on the series or you've reached the court wizard book and are not really enjoying it, think about skipping to this one. I think once the series is done, somebody's going to have to create a machete order for these books so readers can skip the slow parts.

Another winner

Ten books in and there is still fresh ground to cover, the narrator is one of my favourites.

This series of audio books is long and amazing. I've taken them though parts of my life and grew with the characters. I'm thankful I found this series.
