Publisher's Summary

Loose Woman tells of a life-changing year - 1979 - when Beth Kaplan, a successful actor, surprised herself by agreeing to live and work with a group of intellectually disabled men in France. In this intimate, sometimes hilarious memoir, she leaves behind the backstage and bars of the Canadian theatre scene to embark on an extraordinary odyssey of self-discovery and redemption.

Engaging and entertaining

Beth's life story, from actor to writer, had me hooked from beginning to end. It is well written and its flow is seamless, at times gripping and other times hilarious. The author's authentic voice draws the reader in. We want her to find love, true love, and we cheer when that finally happens. The real change from loose woman to a truly rooted one comes about in France, caring as she does for the severely disabled. Many have been changed by similar experiences at L'Arche, and Beth's story has been a good reminder of this. Five stars🌟
