À propos de cet audio

A FUTURE FOR THE TAKING…

As the last Bloodnamed Warrior left in the former Jade Falcon Occupation Zone, newly-elected Khan Jiyi Chistu has ’Mechs, but no MechWarriors—making it impossible to rebuild his Clan after the disaster on Terra. Meanwhile, despite being riven by the Dominion-wide vote on whether to join the new Star League or not, Star Colonel Emilio Hall’s Ghost Bears have a planet full of talented sibkos ready to graduate.

When word of these sibkos reaches Khan Chistu, he hatches a bold plan to take them, eager to rebuild the Jade Falcons. But with Star Colonel Emilio caught up in the politics of the Ghost Bear vote, will he even see Jiyi coming? Or will he lose the sibkos that represent the very future of his Clan?

For both men and the Clans they hold dear, these dilemmas become nothing less than a question of survival…

I just finished the audiobook for BattleTech: A Question of Survival by Bryan Young and wanted to share my thoughts.

First off, the production value on this is solid. It features dual narration and while both readers are competent, the female narrator really stands out. She handles the pacing and character distinction well which isn't always a given. It made for a nice listening experience.

Story-wise, Bryan Young continues to prove he is currently the best author working in the Catalyst stable. He manages to make the political maneuvering of the Clans feel grounded rather than just melodramatic. If you are looking for a jumping-on point for the ilClan era, this is probably the best place to start. It does a good job of setting the stage for the current state of the Jade Falcons and Ghost Bears and makes both factions empathetic.

My only caveat is that at the end of the day, this is still game-tie-in fiction. Much like a Black Library Warhammer novel or a D&D book, your mileage will vary depending on your buy-in to the setting. If you aren't already interested in the universe or the tabletop game, this isn't going to convert you. But for those of us already painting minis and rolling dice, it’s a quality entry to the library.

Verdict: consistently enjoyable and well-produced. Worth a credit if you are following the current timeline.
