Publisher's Summary
Outdoor educator and field researcher Sara Dykman decided to do something no one had ever done before - pedal along with monarch butterflies over the entire length of their 10,201-mile migratory journey. She did it alone, on a hand-built bicycle, through three countries.
In Bicycling with Butterflies, Dykman recounts her incredible journey and the adventurous ups and downs of her ride - follow her along through a Midwestern thunderstorm, a field of zombie corn, and multiple trips across the border. Along the way, we meet a cast of characters that includes devoted citizen scientists, skeptical bar patrons, farmers, and fellow bicyclists. Dykman weaves a tale full of humility and grace, all while sharing the science that underlies the urgency of saving the monarchs and why we all should care.
Bicycling with Butterflies deftly combines memoir, travel, and popular science. It is a must-read debut if you are looking for an uplifting story filled with optimism, energy, and hope.

So much potential
Maybe this story would be better as a graphic novel than an audiobook? Rich descriptions, lots of landscapes, some science, lots of names of people. I nearly gave up, but I did end up finishing this. SO many people would like a story about butterflies, but I am not sure it fits this format.

What a wonderful journey.
Already being a monarch warrior I was drawn to the book. I am now telling everyone I know about it hoping her journey of connection can be continued. The story of hope contained within the 10201 miles are that for both the monarchs and human kind for learning how we can simply make changes that will save ourselves and the tiniest of amazing creatures. Absolutely loved it.

Not for Me
I decided this audio version was not for me and quit after 4 chapters. I was disappointed with performance and story. I think I wanted more science, less personal memoir.

Inspiring, moving
This story of a woman who rode her bike more than 10,000 miles, stopping to inform and inspire others with presentations along the way is truly not to be missed. I love to bike but I can’t even imagine peddling a bike loaded down with gear up and down steep hills, many trafficked, all the while not knowing where she would sleep until she spontaneously felt ready to rest and find a spot where that might be safe and possible. A superwoman story, a David and Goliath story - this “David” fighting for the tiny, lovely miracle of the Monarch Butterfly. Want to focus on something inspiring (that word coming up again) after the long political period of cynicism and negativity we Americans have gone through? Read this heartwarming story of courage and integrity.

gorgeous prose
I enjoyed this audiobook immensely. Ripe with transcendent imagery, the poignant story is wonderfully performed. I'm fairly certain I saw the author during the brief Massachusetts portion of her travels. As a distance cyclist myself, her narration of the cyclist's unique perspective of traveling and the intensely precious nature of our world was deeply moving.

I can't say enough good things about this book!
After hearing friends rave about Bicycling With the Butterflies, I bought the audiobook. I am so thankful for their recommendations. This true story about Sara Dykman's 10,000+ miles following the Monarch Butterfly's migration by bicycle is superbly written and narrated. I loved how she expressed her passion and understanding of the migrant butterflies. This is a must-read book if you love memoirs, travel adventures, and science. I can't stop raving about it.
