Publisher's Summary

“Tells the tales left untold by Stephen Ambrose, whose Band of Brothers was the inspiration for the HBO miniseries…laced with Winters’s soldierly exaltations of pride in his comrades’ bravery.”—Publishers Weekly

In war, great commanders lead soldiers into hell to do the impossible.

They were called Easy Company—but their mission was never easy. Immortalized as the Band of Brothers, they suffered huge casualties while liberating Europe in an unparalleled record of bravery under fire. Dick Winters led them through the Battle of the Bulge, the attack on Foy—where Easy Company reached its breaking point—and finally into Germany, by which time each member had been wounded. Outside Munich, they liberated an SS death camp and captured Berchtesgaden, Hitler’s alpine retreat.

Beyond Band of Brothers is Winters’s memoir, based on his wartime diary, but it also includes his comrades’ untold stories. Only Winters was present from the activation of Easy Company until the war’s end. This is their story, told in his words for the first time.

Meh

Couldn’t get through it. Generic superficial macho cliches - doesn’t give any real insight to the events. Terrible narrator.

Amazing History of Easy Company

Hearing the story of Easy company (Band of Brother's fame) from this personal perspective was truly heartwarming. The highs and lows described complete the full picture of the contribution that Easy Company played during WW2. I feel I know each member just a little bit better and I am truly humbled to live in the peace they helped secure. Thank you for your service one and all.

Braggadocious memoir

Very detailed account of one man’s experience in the war. I get the feeling that the entire purpose is to make himself come off well and another man look bad. I learned some details about military life but didn’t really get engaged, like in so many other accounts.

Fantastic book

I watched the series and fell in love. I wanted to give the book a go and there are many things I didn’t know and learned. Super glad I gave this a shot. Was really good to hear it in more details and what happened later on in life.

Inspirational!

The men and women of the Greates Generation set a high standard or courage, determination, toughness, and morality that I fear we are not able to meet during our turbulent times. We need more people who are like Dick Winters.
