Publisher's Summary

Written with the same spirit and wit as the best-selling Too Close to the Falls and After the Falls, Coming Ashore is the third and final volume of Catherine Gildiner's memoir series.

Picking up her story in the late '60s at age 21, Cathy whisks through seven years and three countries. Whether reciting verse in the classrooms of the University of Oxford, arranging a date with Jimi Hendrix, teaching inner-city kids literature, rooming with a major drug dealer, falling in love, or working in a psychiatric hospital, Cathy determinedly blazes her own trail through all the passion and uncertainty that comes with the cusp of adulthood.

Coming Ashore transports readers to a fascinating era populated by lively characters, but most memorable of all is the singular Cathy McClure.

What the critics say

"Gildiner's adventures are many, from the rough to the romantic, and elicit genuine laughs along the way." ( Chatelaine)
" Coming Ashore reads like a super-cool lady whispering secrets over cold tea late at night - a lady who holds her liquor so well, she refrains from self-pity and self-aggrandizement. The result is a clear-eyed look at life." ( Globe and Mail)

LOVED THIS!

I loved this book by Catherine Gildiner. I had just finished reading her 'Good Morning MOnster' which I completely adored, so I picked up this memoir and truly enjoyed it. I loved the stories from earlier decades (the Hendrix tale was hilarious), and appreciated the large swath of history her experiences covered. A great book. Thank you Catherine.

Excellent

I have now listened to the first and third volumes of Catherine Gildiner’s biography (the second volume is strangely not available from Audible?!). I thoroughly enjoyed both. Lots of irreverent adventures, told with a great sense of humour.
