Publisher's Summary

A collection of humorous autobiographical essays by the Academy Award-nominated actress and star of Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect.

"I'm excited to publish my first book, and because I get uncomfortable when people have high expectations, I'd like to use this opportunity to showcase my ineptitude and pettiness and the frequency with which I embarrass myself. And while many of my female inspirations who have become authors are incredibly well educated and accomplished comedy writers, I'm very, very funny on Twitter, according to BuzzFeed and my mom, so I feel like this is a great idea. Quick question: Are run-on sentences still frowned upon? Wait, is ending a sentence with a preposition still frowned upon? I mean, upon frowned? Dammit!" (Anna Kendrick)

Anna Kendrick's autobiographical collection of essays amusingly recounts memorable moments throughout her life, from her middle-class upbringing in New England to the blockbuster movies that have made her one of Hollywood's most popular actresses today. Expanding upon the witty and ironic dispatches for which she is known, Anna Kendrick's essays offer her one-of-a-kind commentary on the absurdities she's experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture.

What the critics say

"Actress Anna Kendrick narrates her wry and witty collection of autobiographical essays about growing up in Portland, Maine.... Her quick pace, sometimes sarcastic tone, and unmistakably familiar voice enhance funny and shrewd reflections on her ordinary girl's life." ( AudioFile)

Beautifully down to earth.

Love that Anna Kendrick doesn’t the narrating as most voices are stoic and she’s able to add elaborations and such personal inputs as it’s her story after all. Love Anna Kendrick more now!

You encourage me

I would like to start this review by saying I loved everything about this book. I loved the writing, and the over all story and tone of the book. I like how it made me laugh but also made me feel as though I haven’t completely failed at life by mid 20s. And that everything is possible in life. But also that I can relate to so many things in this book. But most importantly I would like to say that this book encouraged me, to not only feel confident in being myself, but also encouraged me to keep following my dreams and my path in life. It brought back a new sense of humour in my life that I had once misplaced. And I am so happy to have bought this book! I encourage every 20 something to read it! ESP aspiring actors.... it shows that everything is in fact worth it at the end of the day. And that everyone on a film crew in important; no matter their roll.

Thank you Anna, for being you, and for writing and voicing this book! You have changed my life for the better!

Interesting read

This book really makes us realize how difficult it can be going from somebody to a celebrity. Anna really details how her life was and is and makes you feel like she's just one of us. I will always be a fan of hers #Audible1

As if I couldn't love her anymore.

Really hilarious.
Really relatable.

Anna Kendrick is a revelation. 😅

I appreciate her realness and ability to be human like the rest of us. If only I could be her friend IRL we would get into some fun adventures.
