Tiffany Haddish grew up in one of the poorest parts of South Central Los Angeles. Her mother wound up with a debilitating brain injury after surviving a car accident. As an illiterate ninth grader, Tiffany did everything she could to survive. After a multitude of jobs, she finally realized that she had talent in an area she never would have suspected: comedy. Tiffany faced the 'routine' hindrances of climbing the entertainment business ladder - but had the added obstacles of sex, race, and class in her way. But she got there. She's humble, grateful, down to earth, and funny as hell. She still cleans the toilet the way she was shown by a foster mom who worked as a maid, and she still rolls her joints the way one of her foster dads taught her.
Tiffany can't avoid being funny: It's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. did not like the impersonations of individuals, even though she calls them her friends or says she loves them later. Decided to stop listening near the end of the book since I started to just dislike her...

A hilarious POV from a hard life.
This was a great rlisten! In fact, I would actively dissuade people from reading this one as a book. Haddish's delivery for the audiobook elevated it to a whole other level!
For someone who has lived such a tough, dark life, Haddish has magically retained the ability to see the humour in nearly every situation and bring smiles to people's faces. When talking about the abuse and neglect she suffered at the hands of the people she loved and trusted most, the pain was obvious in her voice. But then she went ahead and ended the audiobook with a musical rendition of the first few paragraphs of the book! She truly is a unicorn!

Typically, I don't listen to Audiobooks as I prefer reading off my Kindle BUT because I love Tiffany Haddish and found myself binging all these YouTube clips of her interviews, I knew I had to sign up for the Audiobooks trial and use that credit on this book. Zero regrets. The way she reads and delivers the content of her book is so engaging and it really rewires how you think about your own life situations. From the tone to the pace to the emphasis on specific words, I would highly recommend this Audiobook. I'm so happy to see her utilizing all these stories to empower and entertain others. This is my second time using Audiobooks because the first time, you would be surprised at how some authors do not have that energy in delivering their own stories. Whereas Tiffany Haddish delivered.
Absolutely compelling stories. It really warms up my heart and I hope it will warm up yours when you give this a listen or read. I cannot wait to see her accomplish all the goals that she has.

A good listen!
This story was entertaining, sad, and inspiring. Such an easy #Audible1 listen that I finished it over 2-3 days. I would easily recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing, entertaining listen.

Inspiring, honest and funny.
I loved learning about Tiffany’s experiences as a WOC. To hear her unpack major milestones and major hardships was inspiring. Her storytelling is incredibly honest, and some parts certainly can trigger trauma. I watched “They Ready” recently and to have completed that while reading this book, I see more context to Tiffany as a person and a brand. Wonderful book, give it a listen!
