Publisher's Summary

Dee Brown's eloquent, meticulously documented account of the systematic destruction of the American Indian during the second half of the 19th century uses council records, autobiographies, and firsthand descriptions. Brown allows great chiefs and warriors of the Dakota, Ute, Sioux, Cheyenne, and other tribes to tell us in their own words of the battles, massacres, and broken treaties that finally left them demoralized and defeated. A unique and disturbing narrative told with force and clarity, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee changed forever our vision of how the West was really won - and lost.

My heart is saddening

You just won’t be the same after this book. I’m Metis/Cree and because of how where and when I grew up I didn’t start to even begin to understand what really happens to my ancestors , just recently because of Amazon I’ve had access to theses true accounts of what happened both sides good and bad.

The American Dream also died at wounded knee

Saddest story I have ever read. I weep.
Nothing seems to have changed in the lives of men.
We kill and are killed.
We destroy and are destroyed.
Love has died.
Fear reigns free.
Can we learn and live or must we remain asleep, ignorant and die?

The truth-mistreatment of the Aboriginal people

The extreme bigotry against the aboriginal people in both the USA and Canada is, now, so clearly spelled out in this book and "The North West is Our Mother" which is about the aboriginal people of Canada.
And the lies taught to us in schools about this same subject.
I'm not blaming the teachers because these lies have been told to us all for generations.
The first Prime Minister of Canada, John A. McDonald, has finally been held accountable for his treacherous bigotry and his name has been removed from several places including Highway 401, a major road across Ontario.

I highly recommend these audio books!!!

Triggering due to the violence and cruelty

An important historical report of the history of the American indigenous people and the way they were treated by the settlers. A bit dry, but history can be that way.

Worthwhile listen

If you enjoy history & want to learn the things that they never taught you in school then this book is for you.
It was nice to hear the perspective of the Indians as they felt on the coming of the whites into their lands.
IMO what was done is nothing short of genocide.
This book will change you view of history or it has mine!
