Ce que les critiques en disent

"Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil crosses centuries, continents, and cultures to tell the story of three women…. whose afterlives are not what they expected. Vampire fiction the way it should be done, and a compellingly dark companion to the more life-affirming Addie LaRue."—Paste Magazine

"Schwab delicately intertwines the three storylines, which are compelling individually even before the reader knows how they will connect…..A beautiful meditation on queer identity against a supernatural backdrop."—Kirkus Reviews (starred)

"Schwab's fantasies are always a big draw, and this enticing tale of lesbian vampires that crosses centuries [is] irresistible."—Booklist

Editorial Review

What grows when you bury the bones
Some listens just leave you quiet, with nothing but the sound of your heartbeat filling the space. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil did exactly that. It’s beautiful and painful and so full of longing: for freedom, for love, for a life that feels like your own. Told across three timelines, the story is layered and intimate, with characters whose lives twist around each other in ways that are heartbreaking, brilliant, and just a little toxic (okay, okay, a lot toxic). Self-care looked like not hitting pause—because when I did, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin bring it all to life with performances that flow together as seamlessly as the stories of María, Charlotte, and Alice. I finished it and just kept thinking: WOW, this is truly something special. —Patty R., Audible Editor

The voice casting kept me coming back to this book. I would’ve gone through it much slower if I had been reading it. The themes were not laid out clearly, but all in all a good intertwining story.

Excellent voice casting

I’ve been anticipating this book since the author first mentioned it and it did not disappoint. It is beautifully written and the performances add to the way the voices twine together. This is a story I will listen to again and likely buy in print as well.

Worth the wait

It is a story of three lesbian vampires who died in very different time periods but whose stories weave together. Starting with how they died and ending with how they died.
I listened to the audiobook, and although the narrators were fantastic, I had a hard time following the 3 POVs with multiple flashbacks. I found the beginning to be very confusing for that reason, but somewhere in the middle, I figured it all out and got used to the writing style.
I ended up really enjoying this story, but I can't help but think I would have preferred the physical book.

great story

I liked it. It went on too long, but it had me wanting to listen. The ending wasn’t all I hoped it would be.

The thing that bothered me was the other woman’s voice, how she kept saying and yet, and just how over dramatic it was. It seriously almost ruined it for me.

Good but not as good as I thought.

I liked it well enough for the character development. I found the writing tedious and thinking, ease get on with it increasingly as the story went on. I know so much work goes into writing but the author needs to tidy up the useless detail.

Meh

Storyline was unique and great. So many feelings about being a woman and how you relate and feel sympathetic to all characters at different points. Amazing job from the narrators.

Great Story

This is a great story, extremely well written. I couldn’t foresee the ending coming until it actually happened.

The different accents used in the performance was effective, however it did take me a while to get used to the very strong Scottish accent.

I have listened to every one of V.E. Schwab’s audiobooks and this is definitely in the top 5.

Epic story of lesbian Vampires

Loved the depth and richness of the story. I felt the ending was rushed and it did feel out of pace from the rest of the story leading up to it. Overall, it was really good.
