Editorial Review

Successfully managing your money doesn’t have to be rocket science, as this Canadian-based common sense guide to financial security shows.

Becoming wealthy, or at least financially stable, and ridding yourself of debt is one of the skills most sought after in modern society, and indeed throughout history. Everyone wants to be able to stop worrying about money and gain the peace and ease of financial stability. So how do we achieve this elusive goal? It may not be as hard as it seems. In David Chilton’s The Wealthy Barber, listeners will learn a straightforward, common sense plan for reducing debt and money stresses while carving a path to financial stability.

In this audiobook, Chilton creates the character of Roy, the titular barber, and uses examples and anecdotes from this character's life to illustrate his points and plan. With a mixture of pragmatism and humour, the author is able to drive home his point while easing the fear and anxiety surrounding this often daunting topic.

David Chilton is a Canadian-based author who has placed the setting of this business fable in the town of Sarnia, Ontario. This Canadian knowledge and location helps listeners across Canada relate and connect to the financial guide on a level they often can’t with American or European guides. While the principles of Chilton’s guide are universal, the financial landscape of Canada does have unique qualities. The references to local Canadianisms and lessons that apply to Canadian culture help listeners connect in a practical and applicable way in order to better steer their financial success.

American version

Canadians, please be aware that this is the American version. Useful, but lots of information provided in the book only concerns american residents.

Good tips for the modern American, Canadian so so

Being a Canadian some of the topics are relatable but not 100% the same, good story for learning a not so entertaining subject

American Version Only

Audible places this book in the Canadian Authors section however the book is the American version. much of the information is re-written for the American audience. Very disappointed.

Mainly targetted towards USA citizens

I live in Canada so most of the chapter about USA taxes and USA taxes were completely irrelevant to me. it has a few good tips but an international version would be great!

if you're American, the i would rate this a 4/5 for you!

Good Read / slightly irrelevant to Canadians

Interesting if you are a personal finance nerd but as I’m Canadian some of it was irrelevant to me. Also the book came out the year I was born so I listened mainly for the core principles to live by.

Phenominal Narration

Loved the book it covers many important topics and yes there are some boring subjects BUT the story was laid out very clearly and with ease of understanding. As a Canadian, I need to find the equivalents of the American concepts but overall it's a sound book. I recommend.

Dated but helpful

Very dated advice as far as buying mutual funds goes. Real estate prices are way higher today. Otherwise helpful tips and a very different book compared to all the other financial books out there. Fun to see how much things have changed since the 90’s.

Very well read by the author as he gives every character an individual voice and personality. He delivers all the humour in the book really well too.

Not the Canadian Version!

This is a great book with excellent advice but it wasn't what I was expecting. The original was set in Canada with examples that were specific to Canadian finance. This version is set in the United States! If you are an American looking to learn more about personal finance, buy this audiobook! if you are a Canadian and want an audiobook, try the wealthy barber returns or get the original on a different platform!

Very good basic principles

I’m now 60 and wished I listened to it 40 years earlier. Thought I wasn’t bad with finances but could have been better younger.
Very good common sense and practical skills.

AMERICAN version

I have read the Wealthy Barber before and loved the book. Because it had been about 10 years or so since I read it, I jumped at the chance to listen to the book. Unfortunately I did not read the reviews and did not know it was the American version. Looks like Audible doesn’t offer the Canadian version.
