Publisher's Summary

Includes “Fairy Tale of London”, a bonus short story featuring Will and Tessa!

Number one New York Times best seller

“A pure distillation of fantasy’s enchanting mirror held up to our own truths.” (Entertainment Weekly

“Richly imagined...rife with action, intrigue, and smoldering romance.” (Publishers Weekly)

From number one New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cassandra Clare comes the first novel in a brand-new trilogy where evil hides in plain sight and love cuts deeper than any blade. Chain of Gold is a Shadowhunters novel.

Cordelia Carstairs is a Shadowhunter, a warrior trained since childhood to battle demons. When her father is accused of a terrible crime, she and her brother travel to London in hopes of preventing the family’s ruin. Cordelia’s mother wants to marry her off, but Cordelia is determined to be a hero rather than a bride. Soon Cordelia encounters childhood friends James and Lucie Herondale and is drawn into their world of glittering ballrooms, secret assignations, and supernatural salons, where vampires and warlocks mingle with mermaids and magicians. All the while, she must hide her secret love for James, who is sworn to marry someone else.

But Cordelia’s new life is blown apart when a shocking series of demon attacks devastate London. These monsters are nothing like those Shadowhunters have fought before - these demons walk in daylight, strike down the unwary with incurable poison, and seem impossible to kill. London is immediately quarantined. Trapped in the city, Cordelia and her friends discover that their own connection to a dark legacy has gifted them with incredible powers - and forced a brutal choice that will reveal the true cruel price of being a hero.

Wonderful!

As usual, Cassandra Clare makes you adore the characters and world she creates. Cannot recommend this book series enough. Make sure to listen/read the Infernal Devices first!

A worthy read

Struggled to get started reading it. There are so many characters that share the last names of characters from her other books and they are all introduced at once which made it a confusing start. After you get to learn the different characters and their relationships it becomes much more enjoyable.

Disappointing read/listen and uninteresting lead characters

This is my first Cassandra Clare novel that I struggled to get thru.
I listen to it on audiobook and it took so much patience to get it finished. The first 12 hours per painful time get thru and the story didn’t feel like it got going until the final 5.
The story follows Cordelia Carstairs, Will Herondale and Lucy Herondale. I found Lucy to be annoying and silly. She never redeemed herself from coming across as out of touch. Cordelia came across at multiple times as weak and unaware, but did redeem herself as being useful a few times. Characters kept saying how strong she was in hopes the audience would believe it. Will was a less moody Herondale for a change but felt unremarkable despite his “powers”.
I wish the story followed the POV of Anna Lightwood and Matthew Fairchild as these characters seemed much deeper.
I am undecided if I will continue with the Chain series as it’s comes available with the leads being so annoying and with chapters and chapters of fluff writing to fill pages.

Love Cortana

I loved all the characters but Matthew Fairchild the most 💕 aside from Cordelia.

It took me so long to get through that audio because I was afraid of finishing and having to wait how ever long for the next one.

I always forget There’s always like 2-3 hours of just wrap up in Cassies books for that reason I love her but also was a tad like ok is it over yet this time around it was like lemon juice in the salty wounds guhh

Excited for more Magnus and Church the cat!!!!
