Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

What the critics say

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." "An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly

Horrible narration.

The book clearly says Saphira's voice is a deep and clear female one but the narrator absolutely butchered it, ended up sounding more like a weird mix of the cookie monster, gollum, and stitch. The story itself is amazing and I've read the books countless times but the sound of this guy is abrasive.

Love this story

Loved everything except Saphira's voice, the rest of the narration I enjoyed. I would listen to this again.

Worst voice-over artist of all time. ruined book

The ass who read this book singlehandedly ruined every single characters voice beyond comprehension. it is disgusting how bad of a job he did to the point of legitimately sounding as if he was mocking the characters when voicing them. pathetic excuse for a voice actor and downright ruined my favourite book of all time. I cannot bring myself to keep listening to pure and utter crap

Saphira's voice??

The relationship between Eragon and Saphira is one of the most unique I've come across in any book I've read. Unfortunately the narrorator, while doing a spectacular job performing the rest of the story, chose to voice saphira in the manner of a simple beast with an almost childish monster voice that sounds clumsy is her speech rather than wise and articulate as she is on paper.

My advice is to read the book on your own if possible. The dialogue between these two characters really is special, something I think that could be preserved with a more elegant tone on Saphira's part.

All that being said, still a super entertaining story with strong characters and great action; a truly spell-binding world to get lost in.

Great book

I LOVE this book! I’ve read it so many times, so listening to it is a new experience. However the narrator could be better. The way he does Saphira’s voice is terrible. She’s a strong female and he makes her sound like a gremlin or something. That being said, I still recommend. It’s always been one of my favourite stories since I was a kid.

Loved it... except Sapphira voice.

Overall I enjoyed this book and am grateful I could listen to it. But I was not keen on the voice. I read this book when I was younger and always imagined a more feminine voice. Instead you get this aggressive sound that even when she is being sweet, sounds negative.

I really do enjoy the rest of the voices though. You can clearly distinguish between them and it is easy to listen to.

I would recommend this book.

Not the best

Nothing wrong with the story. The narration and voices done were so bad they were laughable.

Yoda Saphira

Always loved the story. But the voice work seemed cheaply done. Should have had a female voice for saphira. Not this growly yoda voice that verges into full yoda. Once you hear it you can’t unhear it.
