Publisher's Summary

Fifty-five years ago, Helen L. Taylor took John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and simplified the vocabulary and concepts for young listeners while keeping the storyline intact. The result was a classic in itself, which has now sold over 600,000 copies.

It's both a simple adventure story and a profound allegory of the Christian journey through life, a delightful listen with a message kids ages six to 12 can understand and remember. A new look for today's children enlivens the journey to the Celestial City.

Faithful Retelling of Pilgrim's Progress for Kids

My five year old loves this story and asks for it all the time. It's a fairly faithful retelling of Pilgrim's Progress but with children instead of adults as the main characters.

There are definitely some mature moments, as several travelers are killed, beaten or imprisoned at different points. However, this is dealt with in a matter of fact way and not gratuitously, and my daughter didn't seem phased by it (though I found it challenging).

She picked up on the symbolism pretty quickly and it was a good way to talk about various concepts like death in a non-threatening way.

The reading is well done and suits the tone of the book. I've enjoyed listening to it with her. I would recommend previewing it as a parent before introducing it to your child.

excellent

loved it! my 8 year old really enjoyed it and it took a bit longer for my 6 year old to get into it but by the end he liked it. the storytelling was so good and I love how the author slightly changes things so that it is slightly easier to understand for parents and kids alike.
