Publisher's Summary
Best-selling authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have turned back the clock and revealed a wonderful story that precedes J. M. Barrie's beloved Peter Pan.
In an evocative and fast-paced adventure on the high seas and on a faraway island, an orphan boy named Peter and his mysterious new friend, Molly, overcome bands of pirates and thieves in their quest to keep a fantastical secret safe and save the world from evil.
This riveting adventure takes listeners on a journey from a harsh orphanage in old England to a treacherous sea in a decrepit old tub. Aboard the Never Land is a trunk that holds a magical substance with the power to change the fate of the world - just a sprinkle and wounds heal; just a dusting and people can fly. Towering seas and a violent storm are the backdrop for battles at sea. Bone-crushing waves eventually land our characters on Mollusk Island - where the action really heats up.
Peter and the Starcatchers is brimming with richly developed characters, from the scary but somehow familiar Black Stache and the ferocious Mister Grin to the sweet but sophisticated Molly and the fearless Peter.
What the critics say
"The real lure is the richly drawn characters, especially the villains, who exhibit just the right amount of swagger and smirk." (Booklist)
"Jim Dale gives a one-man performance that is truly astonishing. He creates distinct voices for all the characters - pirates, women, British soldiers, and native tribesmen. Adults and children alike will enjoy this rollicking tale." (AudioFile)

Brilliant book
I loved this book. I was listening to it to see if it would be a good read for my boys, 5&8, and I know it will be. I can’t wait to share this story with them. Jim Dale’s voices and narration were superb. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Peter and the Starcatchers review
My Mom and I listened to this book and finished it recently. We both really enjoyed it. We both loved how it was an origin story for Peter Pan and Neverland and Tinker Bell and Captain Hook all tied into an amazing listen. It was awesome and full of action and adventure. We both loved the story. Thanks so much Audible. Jim Dale who narrated the story has such a great voice and is so easy and great to listen to. We will be taking a little break before starting to listen to the Hobbit next. We're both looking forward to that one as we both love the book and the films that were made from it.

Enjoyed this fresh take on Peter Pan
This was a really great story except for one very important flaw. The author constantly uses the term “savages” to refer to the indigenous people of the island. It went far beyond expressing the prejudices of the European characters to the point where it’s constant overuse should not be acceptable in a modern children’s book.

Great for road trips
Our entire family loved this book. It is long so it is perfect for a road trip. Great narrator as well. The kids kept begging for one more chapter and to get back in the car so they could keep listening.

Just Okay
This one was sooo slow. I had the audio on 3x the speed and it still felt like it was taking forever to get through. But the ending was great so if you can push through the beginning to get to the end, you'll be happy about it! Unfortunately for me, a good ending isn't enough for me to be completely satisfied with the novel.
I liked the elements of the original story that were kept in this one and the updates to the story as well. But I read this two months ago (whoops I'm late on reviewing) and I can't remember specific details from the novel because it was actually so boring.
I did like the additional characters that were introduced in this story and some of the back story was interesting. I also liked how the "magic" was introduced because I thought it was really cool.
I am glad I listened to this one on audio because I'm not sure I would have finished it otherwise. If you are looking for a retelling of Peter Pan, this is one. But that's about the only recommendation I can give to it.
