Summary

Forensic artist Hannah Perry's skills make her a valuable asset to the police in solving criminal investigations.

Now she's taking a much-needed vacation on a secluded island with her young son. But a young woman has been murdered. Her body unidentified. Her skull recently discovered by the police, and Hannah feels compelled to help find the killer. She decides to work on the reconstruction in the evenings while her son sleeps. But as the woman's face takes shape, an assailant invades Hannah's cabin and tries to end her life. Before he can permanently silence her, she and her son flee the island in a small boat. Trouble is, as they approach Cold Harbor, ocean waves capsize the boat, enveloping them both in cold terror.

But it also makes her the next target.

Former SEAL Gage Blackwell can't believe his eyes as he plunges into the raging waters to rescue the pair. Owner of Blackwell Tactical-a law enforcement training facility and protection services agency-Gage pulls the woman he once loved from the angry ocean. When he learns of her attack, he vows to protect her while hunting down the killer. Alone and vulnerable, Hannah has to accept Gage's protection-even if it means staying close to the man who'd once walked out on her without a backward glance.

I couldn't get past the narrator. Little variation other than breathy and "dramatic". The female protagonist sounded like a victim, needing a man to protect her, but then constantly complained about the men in her life. The male protagonist sounded like a macho jerk. I think, with a different narrator, it could have been very different. Forced myself to listen until chapter 9, but it just got more irritating.

had potential

Like the first review said. It took everything I had to complete this book. And this was also with me fast forwarding entire 3-4 chapters and picking up right where I left off with the protagonist being the same helpless female who cannot exist without a man’s protection. Over describing everything from the lamp to the colour of drapes to the handle of a spoon and plate design. Quite pathetic.
As for the male character he was such a mucho man hyped up on. too much testosterone and sounds like a jerk.
The worse part was the narrator who narrated this book in a breathy panic stricken voice all the time. So Very over dramatic. Perhaps a different narrator may have been better…. Who knows I skipped forward to the end because I could not wait for it to end.
Just a waste of my time. Hope someone likes it. Sorry Audible.

Disappointing and a waste of my time

Others have already commented about the narration. I was also unimpressed with the overall story, but forced myself to listen to the end anyway.

Poor narration and no real conclusion
