Publisher's Summary
A hilarious and heartwarming New York Times best-selling novel - the basis for the acclaimed major motion picture!
"There's rich, there's filthy rich, and then there's crazy rich.... A Pride and Prejudice-like send-up about an heir bringing his Chinese-American girlfriend home to meet his ancestor-obsessed family.” (People)
When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.
On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

Meh
Loved the story but... The narrator could have been better. Horrible mockery of Asian accents.

horrible attempt from the narrator.
I really struggled. The performers attempt on the different characters are dreadful. Can't tell them apart or understand her at all. Storyline is funny and classic rom com in a south east asian setting. So if you like Romantic Comedy I would really recommend just reading the book.

Just in time for the movie!
I travel a bit for my job, and read this book when it first came out. (I went old school and put it in a book jacket so people wouldn't think I was reading something perhaps racially inappropriate - you know, book in disguise). In prep for the movie I just did a fast audible / book re-read and my daughter did as well so we could analyze the similarities and differences between the book and the movie -- loved both a LOT, and yep, some interesting differences. Looking forward to the sequel now.

Just not for me
I got this book because the I thought the movie trailer looked good.
If you’re interested in fashion, you might love this book, every character’s outfit is described, and I’m sure they’re beautiful, but

Wonderful story telling
From the very first page this narrative is the most engaging story yet. I could not stop listening. There is a true fairy tale ending to this book. Wonderful!

Love the writing…awesome story…fun, funny and dead serious topics combined !
A great story full of funny, serious, educational tales that combined made an excellent story. Sadly the narration was not awesome…but the story was so it still deserves a ‘ten’ to my mind !

Love, love, LOVE!!!
It took me a little time to get into the book. At first I listened to a chapter or two and then stopped for weeks. Once I restarted, I really loved it. Humourous but down to earth with fun characters that you'll either love or hate. You may even see some similarities to people in your life.
I don't know if this is how "Asian" cultures really are and would never assume but it was an intriguing look into a world I know little about.
The narrator had a lot of expression and took on the character really well-however the pronunciation of the French words could use some practice.
Can't wait to listen to/read to the next one.

Good story but a bit slow with all the dialogue
I felt the story was good, with good themes and descriptions but a bit slow overall as 75% of the story was told through characters dialogue, and a lot of the conversations seemed to be fluff or pointless information. I did like the story though and the narrator, and will most likely give his other books a try!
