Publisher's Summary

"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." (1 John 4:8)

Are you looking to enrich a healthy relationship, revitalize a tired one, or rescue one gone awry? Do you yearn to grow closer to God and to further incorporate him and his teachings into your marriage? We all want lifetimes of love, support, and faith. But sometimes we need a little help.

Enter Dr. Sue Johnson, developer of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and "the best couple therapist in the world", according to best-selling relationship expert Dr. John Gottman. In Created for Connection, Dr. Johnson and Kenneth Sanderfer, a leading EFT practitioner in the Christian community, share Johnson's groundbreaking and remarkably successful program for creating stronger, more secure relationships not only between partners but between us and God.

The message of Created for Connection is simple: Forget about learning how to argue better, analyzing your early childhood, or making grand romantic gestures. Instead, get to the emotional underpinnings of your relationship by recognizing that you are attached to and dependent on your partner in much the same way that a child is on a parent and we are on the Heavenly Father for nurturing, soothing, and protection. The way to enhance or save our relationships with each other and with God is to be open, attuned, and responsive and to reestablish safe emotional connections. Filled with Bible verses, inspiring real-life stories, and guidance, Created for Connection will ensure a lifetime of love.

For fighting couples

This book is intended for couples who fight a lot and need help understanding and working through their disputes. Got recommended this book by a counsellor but does not apply or help with some of the issues my wife and I are going through. Bad recommendation.

Great book. Good performance.

There are audiobooks where women narrators perform several male voices that are distinctly different. This narration was in perfect tone for the content of this book. But the voices for all male characters and female characters were very monotonously the same. This could have been intensional but it became monotonous after a few chapters. Overall, it was a good performance, though.

A must read for every Christian couple

I liked this book because it validated a lot of the deep need for connection. I now know I’m not crazy. I’m just created for connection and when I don’t get the connection especially in my close relationships I withdraw and hide.

I recommend this book to everyone looking to build secure emotional connection with a human being

First few chapters are terrible, but the book is very worth it

This book starts off unbelievably slow and with a lot of background information about the author that it’s completely unnecessary.

Afterword, it is one of the most useful marriage books I’ve ever read. Getting a lot of specifics in terms of the conversations in terms of the things you must do and say to your spouse and the patterns that couples get into. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their marriage. However, it’s worth taking notes on a lot of the important things.

Gave new life to my marriage!

My husband and I have been married for 9 years. Overall, we have a healthy and resilient relationship, but the concepts in this book have helped us to deepen our connection and navigate some very difficult seasons (both that we are currently dealing with and revisiting some painful past seasons) and working through them together. We just started seeking some marriage counseling with an EFT certified therapist, and I'm so eager to see how it further strengthens our relationship and depends our connection to each other.

Very knowledgeable

Good examples, practical, knowledgeable, based on a lot of work and research, a lot of truth.

Great book, adjusted to the narrator over time

The book is really insightful and I appreciate Kenneth’s work with Sue to have a Christian viewpoint. EFT is going to continue to be very helpful to couples struggling with communication.

When I first started listening I was disappointed in the narrator. I had to turn the volume up rather loudly and anticipated that I would still miss part of what she was saying. However I found that I adjusted to her narration so that by the end I didn’t struggle with hearing her.
