Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author K. Bromberg comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville - at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade ring in my ears every time a towns-person brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons - sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past. But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it. What’s one night of sex going to hurt... right?

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves. That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up. Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for - like that’s a hardship - but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

WOW!!

I would say that Colleen Hoover, Harper Sloan, and Abbi Glines are my top 3 authors. K. Bromberg was always up there but I had only read her racing series which I have loved but I needed to read some other stuff to know that it wasn't just that series.
I am happy to say I LOVED this book! so good and emotional and sucked me right in!
I love the characters and I love that it is a series which means I get to read more about them.
K. Bromberg is now one of my all time favs.
so happy!

Ooof. This was rough.

2.5 stars. This was really hard to get through. I found the main plot device between the two MC used in this very problematic. Also, I didn’t love the female narration in this.

Strength

Grant and Emerson are strong, well-developed characters. Their journey both in growth and love was a fun one to watch – with a lot of ups and downs. This is a very emotional read at times, but it also has moments of levity. The characters are relatable and all too real. The secondary characters add dimensions to the main characters and story.

TW: This story is about both sexual abuse of a child and physical abuse of both a child and adult.

I listened to this book on audio and enjoyed the narrators. They were easy to understand and changed their voices so that each character had a distinct sound.

Great story, sensitive themes.

I loved this story, it was a good mix of sweet, funny, dramatic, sexy and romantic. Certain themes can be triggering or disturbing; domestic and child abuse. The female narrator’s voice had a certain tremor to it that was really good for the traumatic or dramatic parts but was a bit strange for all other parts that were meant to be humorous, playful and fun. She did a very good job doing all the other women’s voices and the kid’s voices. But when she did all the older male character’s voices, they sounded like teenagers which was a weird contrast to her voice for the main female character that sounded sometimes like she could be a chain-smoking 40 year old.
All in all, I enjoyed this story, I laughed and cried a few times and felt satisfied when it ended. I don’t recommend the audiobook version, it’s not worth the extra money.
