Publisher's Summary

Ash’s life is anything but normal these days.

Having unlocked his Dantian, he’s grown in power. Grown to the point where he has others who depend on him for that power.

In this world of martial arts, only the strong and the ruthless survive.

Everyone else is merely a stepping stone on their path of Cultivation, or an obstacle to be overcome.

Or knock down.

A world where the strong rule, and the weak die.

Utilizing the Hall, the voice in his head that calls itself Locke, and all the powers available to him, Ash has begun his own journey of Cultivation.

Except that as a Fated One, his journey is a narrow and winding path between two cosmic forces. Each one vying for dominance.

And that has nothing to do with what Locke has planned for him.

This is his second step in his life as a Cultivator. Overcoming his first tribulation, and solidifying his Dantian.

This is a VeilVerse novel.

Warning and minor spoiler: This novel contains graphic violence, undefined relationships/a full harem, unconventional opinions/beliefs, and a hero who is tactful as a dog at a cat show. Listen at your own risk.

Solid 5 on all levels

The first book in this series came out almost 2 years ago, and the wait was painful, but well worth it.

This book is everything I hoped for and more.

Andrea parsneau was fantastic as always.

Came for the story but stayed for the performance

I was really looking forward to continuing Ash’s story in book two and for the most part it delivered. By the end of the novel we saw Ash’s character progress along side his relationships with the women in his life. The fights are well written and had a enjoyable, easy to follow flow.

The books largest weakness comes in the form of little narrative progress and no stand out antagonist. We bounced between quickly disposable villain A to quickly disposable villain B, this coupled with them having no real goals or motivations aside from humiliating or killing the protagonist left the fights feeling unsatisfactory. There was a stand out moment in the book for me which I won't spoil but involved a stupid villain being stupid. The fight itself was really enjoyable but again the build up and payoff from it felt pointless and without meaning from the villains point of view.

Andrea Parsneau once again delivers a stand out performance with a wide variety of unique characters.

With the finale leaving Ash hopefully with some actual motivation so we can move on from his rudderless self in this book. I will be picking up book 3 when it becomes available on audible for what it is worth.
