Publisher's Summary

From the number one New York Times best-selling author of the Reckoners series, the Mistborn trilogy, and the Stormlight Archive comes the third book in an epic series about a girl who will travel beyond the stars to save the world she loves from destruction.

Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus, and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell - the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small, desolate planet home.

Now, the Superiority - the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life - has started a galaxy-wide war. And Spensa’s seen the weapons they plan to use to end it: the Delvers. Ancient, mysterious alien forces that can wipe out entire planetary systems in an instant. Spensa knows that no matter how many pilots the DDF has, there is no defeating this predator.

Except that Spensa is Cytonic. She faced down a Delver and saw something eerily familiar about it. And maybe, if she’s able to figure out what she is, she could be more than just another pilot in this unfolding war. She could save the galaxy.

The only way she can discover what she really is, though, is to leave behind all she knows and enter the Nowhere. A place from which few ever return.

To have courage means facing fear. And this mission is terrifying.

Great story but

This is not the SciFi I was expecting. While a great story following a familiar trope, I was not as "into" the middle 2/3 of the book as I was at the beginning and the end. Sanderson tied it all together well but this is my least favourite of the Cytoverse so far. I strongly recommend the novellas he wrote with Janci Patterson as they cover some really interesting stuff that is happening simultaneously. The added characters really flesh out the story and I think are really required for the optimal experience (I don't find this to be the case with some of the Cosmere novellas).

Suzy Jackson's performance was great as always. She's a pro and you won't be disappointed with her if you liked the previous books.

A Great Continuing

Sanderson gets us right back into the action, adding layers to his developing characters with new crew and new plot twists arising. A well-considered system with reveals yet to come. Great story and sympathetic situations. Love Mbot!

Sanderson, you have my heart.

I am really not prepared to wait almost a year for the finale. I love all these characters so much.

another epic story by an epic writer

honestly, I'm not big on aircraft battles and star fighters but this book was down right amazing, the narrator makes spin come alive, and the characters are so relatable, another great series by my favorite author. 10 out of 10

Getting better and better

Unlike other sequential, this series just get better and unpredictable. Wonderful book and fantastic performance. I wish the book 4 would keep this trend.

A Thrilling Adventure About Personal & GlobaGrowth

This second book is as thoroughly enjoyable as all the Brandon Sanderson worlds I have experienced so far.
While having the Sanderson flavor, this series is definitely its own unique thing. It feels full of Hope and empathy for more of it in the universe. I'm glad I overcame my suspicion of the genre that I perceived it to be at first: all about space Battles, a kind of stories I usually avoid. The battles are just a tool in a much more mature story. I highly recommend this series to younger viewers, I would have loved to have discovered this when I was a teenager, but I don't yet have access to time travel.
