Story
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Story
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

Finite games, like football or chess, have known players, fixed rules, and a clear endpoint. The winners and losers are easily identified. Infinite games, games with no finish line, like business or politics, or life itself, have players who come and go. The rules of an infinite game are changeable, while infinite games have no defined endpoint. There are no winners or losers - only ahead and behind. The question is, how do we play to succeed in the game we’re in? In this revelatory new audiobook, Simon Sinek offers a framework for leading with an infinite mindset.

Publisher's Summary
Number-one New York Times best seller.
Brené Brown has taught us what it means to dare greatly, rise strong, and brave the wilderness. Now, based on new research conducted with leaders, change makers, and culture shifters, she’s showing us how to put those ideas into practice so we can step up and lead.
Don’t miss the hour-long Netflix special Brené Brown: The Call to Courage!
Named one of the best books of the year by Bloomberg.
Leadership is not about titles, status, and wielding power. A leader is anyone who takes responsibility for recognizing the potential in people and ideas and has the courage to develop that potential.
When we dare to lead, we don’t pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don’t see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it with others. We don’t avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into vulnerability when it's necessary to do good work.
But daring leadership in a culture that’s defined by scarcity, fear, and uncertainty requires skill-building around traits that are deeply and uniquely human. The irony is that we’re choosing not to invest in developing the hearts and minds of leaders at the exact same time as we’re scrambling to figure out what we have to offer that machines and AI can’t do better and faster. What can we do better? Empathy, connection, and courage, to start.
Brené Brown has spent the past two decades studying the emotions and experiences that give meaning to our lives, and the past seven years working with transformative leaders and teams spanning the globe. She found that leaders in organizations ranging from small entrepreneurial startups and family-owned businesses to nonprofits, civic organizations, and Fortune 50 companies all ask the same question:
How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?
In this new audiobook, Brown uses research, stories, and examples to answer these questions in the no-BS style that millions have come to expect and love. Brown writes, “One of the most important findings of my career is that daring leadership is a collection of four skill sets that are 100 percent teachable, observable, and measurable. It’s learning and unlearning that requires brave work, tough conversations, and showing up with your whole heart. Easy? No. Because choosing courage over comfort is not always our default. Worth it? Always. We want to be brave with our lives and our work. It’s why we’re here.”
Whether you’ve read Daring Greatly and Rising Strong or you’re new to Brené Brown’s work, this audiobook is for anyone who wants to step up and into brave leadership.
What the critics say
"With Dare to Lead, Brene brings decades of research to bear in a practical and insightful guide to courageous leadership. This book is a road map for anyone who wants to lead mindfully, live bravely, and dare to lead." (Sheryl Sandberg, COO, Facebook, founder, LeanIn.Org and OptionB.Org)
"Whether you're leading a movement or a start-up, if you're trying to change an organizational culture or the world, Dare to Lead will challenge everything you think you know about brave leadership and give you honest, straightforward, actionable tools for choosing courage over comfort." (Tarana Burke, senior director, Girls for Gender Equity, founder, the Me Too movement)
"Brene truly gives it all away in Dare to Lead. Courage is a set of teachable skills, and she teaches us exactly how to build those muscles with research, stories, examples, and new language. The future belongs to brave leaders, and she's written the ultimate playbook for daring leadership." (Scott Harrison, founder and CEO, charity: water)
Editorial Review
In Dare to Lead, bestselling writer Brené Brown shares what years of studying leadership look like. Having worked alongside leaders, change agents and thought leaders, Brown shows us that leadership has nothing to do with job titles, status or power. Those who dare to lead remain curious, empower others, and show up with courage and vulnerability. Action and engagement are not for the faint of heart. And cheap seat critics need not apply! As with all of her other Audible audiobook releases, Brené Brown is her own narrator. Her voice is focused, emphatic and real. Her tone feels like a one-on-one coaching session, served straight-up with her characteristic honesty and Texas twang. In asking how we cultivate courageous leaders, Brown’s research findings and personal stories tell us that such skills are “100 percent teachable, observable, and measurable”. This Audible audiobook is a call for all of us to grow and become brave leaders. For the past two decades, Brené Brown has conducted pioneering research into our deepest and most human traits – courage, shame, resilience, and the power of vulnerability. She has published five books, including Dare to Lead, all of which have been number-one New York Times bestsellers.

Rumble with Platitudes
I did not feel the author is sincere. This is especially disappointing in a book which discusses vulnerability in leadership. I found no flow, no real substance or depth of thought or innovation in the entire book.
The author shares her personal trials which consist of missing her child's game and arguing with her husband about ham sandwiches. That's it? Either she has lived a very privileged life, or she's holding back.
Jam packed with self promotion, platitudes and read in a contrived tone. I forced myself to finish the book hoping that at some point there will be something worth learning. Unfortunately, this is not the case, at least not for me.

Very poor language and self promoting
Halfway through listening this book I stopped it. Although the book may have some points on leadership it fails to connect with the readers especially knowing that the author herself narrates the book. Almost every one in five sentences is self promoting. The author goes on and on about how great her approach is and how many thousands of people from different background have enjoyed her seminars. The ideas presented in this book are not new either. Most of it are common sense. How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie written 80 years ago covers is far better a book on leadership.

Absolutely the best book I have ever read on leadership. The audible is clear and I love that Brené often stops to reiterate what she said because she knows that we are listening not reading. Brene seems bored and defensive in this one. I miss her past inspiration & enlightening tone. Her tone made it very unnapealing & the content was nothing new or revolutionary. It might have seemed more relevent if she was more enthusiastic & motivational as in the past.
