Author David Hosp introduces defense lawyer 'Scott Finn' - product of a hardscrabble upbringing in gangster-ridden Boston - whose close friend and ex-lover is found murdered.. potentially by a horrifying serial killer. He works in parallel with Boston PD Lieutenant 'Linda Flaherty' to uncover the killer in a well-conceived complex twisty-turny case that eventually includes "Southie" mob figures, corrupt politicians/FBI officials, and Radical Islamist terrorists. The author's vocabulary/prose is commendable, his characters are complex, flawed, and realistic, and his descriptions are gritty.

As to presentation: George Guidall reads the book with unparalleled excellence, too. Guidall's spot-on diction, timbre, and cadence are accompanied by punctiliously realistic, distinctive voices and a pitch-perfect tone that matches the author's intentions reliably. My only real complaint lies with the Chapter breakdown in the audiobook: Recorded Books Inc. presents a product that quite frankly isn't navigable ("Chapter One" of the recording includes the Prologue + Chapters 1-8 of the text version of 'Dark Harbor', for example).

Altogether, I am thrilled to have discovered this 9/10-star Mystery-Thriller on the 'Plus' menu.. because it easily merits a Credit. It may be a little bit too busy (Hosp is guilty of playing with too many plotlines).. but don't hesitate to download it.
