Description
The second novel in the new, gripping supernatural thriller series from international best-selling author Jodi Taylor.
From the frying pan into the fire....
Betrayed, terrified and alone, Elizabeth Cage has fled her home. With no plan and no friends, she arrives at the picturesque village of Greyston and finds herself involved in an ages-old ceremony that will end in death.
And that might be the least of her problems - the Sorensen Institute would very much like to know her whereabouts. And Michael Jones is still out there, somewhere, she hopes. No matter how far and how fast she can run, trouble will always find Elizabeth Cage.

Trying to be Alice in Wonderland?
Nope, don't like it. Too much of Cage wandering and wondering and getting into ever more unrelated and unlikely situations. The first book seemed headed towards something that I thought would be further explored in the second. The beginning of this seemed good, until it became clear that it would not explore Cage's 'ability', nor did the second adventure, and then she started telling about her dreams. The last thing I need in a fantasy, or any book, really, is a breakdown of a dream that someone had... that is why I am reading the book.
Then there is the narrator change. My 3 stars for the "Performance" does not reflect on Ms. Teal, but on the choice of Ms. Teal to replace Ms. Scarfe. Ms. Teal is a brilliant narrator, whom I would love to hear read many books, and I will so explore. However, Ms. Scarfe had done such a fantastic job with E.Cage in the first, that it is a travesty to take her away, or at least not choose someone who sounds similar to her. I agree with other reviewers that Ms. Teal makes Cage sound like a pension aged woman, as opposed to the younger woman she is. That being said, once the the plot changed into... I don't know what it became... I did not mind Ms. Teal's voice as much, because it was no longer the Elizabeth Cage from book one, but an absurd fantasy book, that I'd mostly lost interest in except for Ms. Teal's telling. When 'the dream' started, I had to shut it off. I hate listening to other people's dreams, particularly in a book that might all be a dream. I haven't decided if I'll finish it.
That being said, the St. Mary's Series is brilliant and should never end. And I think a re-imagining of this book could lead to a better sequel for White Silence, which it deserves.
... I have finished it. And enjoyed it enough in the end... NOT as a sequel to White Light, but as a stand-alone.
