Publisher's Summary

Strange days....
Winter gripped the city. Terror gripped it, too. They found four corpses in four days, each more hideous than the last.

Strange nights....
At first the cops thought they were dealing with a psychopath. But soon they heard eerie sounds in the ventilation system - and saw unearthly silver eyes in the snow-slashed night.

Final hours....
In a city paralyzed by a blizzard, something watches, something stalks.

Great!

Great supernatural story. Fantastic narrator 😊Loved it. I mean, there's voodoo, monsters out of a nightmare chasing you. Fun stuff what's not to like 😁

Not a bedtime story

Sometimes, I stay up way too late at night reading a book. There are two reasons for this:
1. It's so good, and so thrilling that I can't put it down.
2. I'm afraid to go to sleep, for fear of what dreams may come.

This is one of the latter. It's one of Koontz's earlier horror novels. Suspense is increased by presenting an unstoppable villain, and by putting children at risk, which is cheap in my opinion.

Still, I can't stop buying his books.

Fantastic

Great book. we listened to the story on our summer vacation road trip with our 13 year old son. it was suspenseful, quick paced and engaging. My son loved it and wanted to know more about the author. 10 thumps up.

Edge of your seat story and amazing narrator

This book is such a "page turner" I couldn't stop listening to it. The story was suspenseful, heart pounding, and didn't let up for a second. The best part of it was probably the narrator, the way he voiced each character was superb.

Disappointed

This was by far the worst Koontz book I’ve read. I plodded through it hoping for something to actually be entertaining but didn’t find it.

Quite painful

Started out in a very intriguing way. Ended with a whimper. Listened at 1.4x to get through it. Far from his best work.

flew through this one

Dean Koontz is an undeniable favorite author for me . I probably read this a long time ago , but that didn't stop me from wanting to listen to the story again and probably one of the shortest times to listen to any book on audible.

Not the best but not the worst

I am a fan of lots of Koonz stuff but this one was so-so. Nice to kill time with but not super engaging.

Great

Kept me on the edge of my seat.
Recommend this book to others. Dean Koontz has done it again.

Rushed

Not bad, but the story felt rushed. Just when I thought the narrative was getting going, I looked at the time remaining and realized that it was actually winding down. After a pretty good setup (some initially grating characterization aside), the author seems to rush to the finish line, dropping plot points and ignoring characters who I assumed would play some role in the rest of the story. Even some of the characters who we spend a lot of time with seem to get lost by the climax, amounting to little more than window-dressing. Worst of all, the ending was abrupt and failed to provide any satisfying epilogue. It felt like I was reading the "made for tv" version of a story after some overzealous editor had chopped half of it's content for brevity. It seems cruel to give the story less than 3 stars as the little that we get is not badly written. But it's a generous 3 for a disappointingly incomplete story.
