Publisher's Summary

"Vampires don't exist. At least, not anymore...."

I celebrated when vampires were declared extinct.

Those beasts had preyed on humanity for millennia, committing senseless, brutal murders. Like the rest of my colleagues at the Occult Bureau, I looked forward to a world where we could all sleep at night - where constant cover-up jobs were no longer required to keep the public calm and unaware.

But the end of vampires wasn't the end of our problems. It was only the beginning.

Other blood-sucking creatures began to lurk in the night. As soon as I turned 21, I became a ground agent at the Bureau because I wanted - no, needed - to join the fight.

And then Dorian Clave burst into my life - turning everything I thought I knew into quicksand. Vampires like him were killers who devoured humanity's inner darkness until shadows danced beneath their skin. Yet there was more to him than that.

He showed me that light cannot exist without the dark, and that trying to fight this balance would have consequences our human minds couldn't even comprehend.

Because sometimes darkness needs to exist.

Twilight fans, welcome to a thrilling new world....

A great novel series

This novels series reminds me of Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent and Outlander novel series. Plus the movie What dreams may come. She is not a well knowing write. But she is really good. The lady that does reading is really good too. l look forward to reading more. keep up the wonderful writing.

boring

I usually enjoy this author's books. This one was hard to get into and hard to finish.

I really tried to love this...

I desperately tried to finish this book but every moment when I turned it on I would turn it off shortly after. I quit reading this alltogether with about 3 hours until the end, I just couldn't make it no matter how hard I tried. The narrator is great, and gives a good performance. The plot moves at a very slow pace, and it was reccommened to me as a romance book but not much romance happens other than the main character constantly swooning over a vampire and some playful banter. Overall very bland. Heavily plays on themes of post-apocolaptic future, and heavy military themes with fighting and guns (Not my cup of tea, and if I knew it was a military book I would't have bought). It was just ok overall.

So glad I kept going!

I listen to audio books while I’m working on the office and usually don’t have any issues. After just finishing another Bella Forest book I was having trouble or following along with this one. I restarted it twice. On a road trip I restarted it again and am so glad I did. I love this book! I love the story and the characters and I think the reader did a really good job. I can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series!

Um..it’s a different take on tween Vamp love story

Its still a Vamp/Human forbidden love story. Kinda predictable but does proffer a new unexpected creative plot. In this story humans and vampires are actually wholly independent species. The Vamps flee from their home realm and come to Earths to survive an apocalypse in theirs. Seems the very thing that caused all the trouble is of course humans. The Vamps feed on blood, but only on the blood of bad, wicked evil humans who the Vamps seem to have an instinct for. They don’t feed on good folks because they taste like eating card board or saw dust, no flavor at all. Only the wicked are tasty. This is a fun story with plots and twists to keep you guessing and interested to the end. I hope book two doesn’t disappoint. I look forward to book two.

Great story! Wonderful narration.

But seriously.... is it Sloan or Stone?! This little inconsistency drove me bonkers! Otherwise an enthralling story and can’t wait for the next book!

Starts Slow, Finishes Strong

Okay I have to be honest. With the reviews simply saying this is great Blah Blah Blah you really don’t get a REAL review. This book starts off wobbly and very slow, but to the authors credit it finishes strong and actually had me looking for the next book. It’s entertaining once the storyline gets started. It has some humor, and the characters keep you interested. I am looking forward to the next installment and will let you know how it stacks up!

Enjoyed the story. Narrator is top notch!

I have mostly hated the narrators of fiction books. The narrator of this novel, Stacey Glemboski, is among the very best. As for the novel itself. I’m a retired Soldier and romantic “Twilight” love stories are not my usual fair of military or suspense novels. I started listening to this book simply so I could have enough ammo to tease my wife about it because she’d recently started reading it as it had a similar premise to Twilight. I quickly found myself enjoying the excellent narration and the action sequences deftly written by Bella Forrest. Whether you’re a Twi-hard or a Die Hard type, I think both itches are equally scratched for most of the first half of the book. Once it gets into her description of this sexy vampire and the romance gets heavy, I quit listening. But up to that point, where the lovey-dovey crap made me want to vomit, I honestly enjoyed the book.
