Publisher's Summary

"One of the most adorable, big-hearted, charming books in existence." (Becky Albertalli, number one New York Times best-selling author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda)

What If It's Us meets To All the Boys I've Loved Before in this upbeat and heartfelt boy-meets-boy romance that feels like a modern twist on a '90s rom-com!

Everyone knows about the dare: Each week, Bryson Keller must date someone new - the first person to ask him out on Monday morning. Few think Bryson can do it. He may be the king of Fairvale Academy, but he's never really dated before.

Until a boy asks him out, and everything changes.

Kai Sheridan didn't expect Bryson to say yes. So when Bryson agrees to secretly go out with him, Kai is thrown for a loop. But as the days go by, he discovers there's more to Bryson beneath the surface, and dating him begins to feel less like an act and more like the real thing. Kai knows how the story of a gay boy liking someone straight ends. With his heart on the line, he's awkwardly trying to navigate senior year at school, at home, and in the closet, all while grappling with the fact that this "relationship" will last only five days. After all, Bryson Keller is popular, good-looking, and straight...right?

Drawing on his own experiences, Kevin van Whye delivers an uplifting and poignant coming-out love story inspired by classics like Venio Tachibana and Rihito Takarai's manga Seven Days: Monday-Sunday and the '90s rom-com She's All That. Listeners will root for Kai and Bryson to share their hearts with the world - and with each other.

Adorable!

This was my first time listening to something narrated by Vikas Adam but it certainly won't be my last! He did a wonderful job at bringing the characters to life. Some narrators simply read a book but Vikas immerses you in it. I particularly enjoyed the emotions he put into his work. I have read the paper copy of this book but listening Kai pleading with his parents almost had me in tears. It was the type of narration that elevates an already good book.
The story itself is adorable. It's a fairly light, fluffy read that deals with some very real struggles.
I loved Kai, Byson and all of the supporting characters. Priya and Yaz were my favourites! I loved that the ladies in this book were strong and fierce and not afraid to tell their loved ones when they were being stupid.
I loved Bryson too. I think we all dream of a Bryson Keller of our very own. I read one review that criticized Bryson's character for being "too perfect" but the story is a first person narrative from Kai's perspective and to Kai Bryson is perfect. Therefore, his appearance as such doesnt bug me. And there are times when you can see the cracks in Brysons facade. Even if they are subtle.
I really hope that Kevin Van Whye writes a sequel. Mostly because I loved the characters so much and would love to revisit them. I'd love to see Bryson's perspective.
---- SPOILERS ------

I want to know what the aftermath of Bryson's post is at school, especially with his teammates. I want to know if Dustin ever gets his head out of his butt. I also really want to know if Bryson was right about high school relationships. Does he hold to college with Kai or not? What does he major in? Did Kai's play get picked?

I have all the questions but not because the book didn't wrap itself up in the end but because I feel emotionally invested in the characters. You know a book is good when it leaves you wanting more and not in a bad way.

Adorable story, makes you feel amazing!

Just finished up this great story, and it left me with the biggest smile on my face. A unique, adorable, sappy-yet-sweet coming of age piece that puts a real twist on the typical high school rom com. Really worth the listen. Makes me wish I had met Bryson Keller in high school!!!

Absolute loved it and such a great narration

I usually don't write reviews but I really loved this book. Very well written and the narration by Vikas Adam made it so much better. He is sure up in my top narrators list now. He brought life to each character that I could see them through his different voices. This book made me blush, smile and even cry as the story felt so real in so many parts. I would definitely recommend it.

Perfect

One of the most touching story's I have heard as an Audiobook. It deserves more than words can say. Not only was the writing superb. The Narrator was amazing making every word spoken full of character and meaningful. Thank you to the Author and the Narrator for a wonderful ride.

Such an amazingly beautiful book!

This book had me hooked right away.

I decided upon this book for an easy listen on my commute to work each day, but ended up starting and finishing in 2 days instead! I was listening to it before bed, during work, on my drive to the coffee shop, whenever I had a chance to hit play, I did with anticipation and excitement!

I’m a 38 year out gay man and during this book I found myself laughing, crying (and I mean ugly man alligator tears of both sorrow and happiness. Be warned the last few chapters will sneak up on your heart strings and will, without any care in the world, PULL!!). I found myself lamenting on my days in high school and my fear of coming out. Oh how I wished this book existed in the late 90’s to show me that love exists and that coming out is personal and ones own choice and that it truly is ok.

To Kevin van Whye, thank you for writing a book that LGBTQ+ teens today can read and know that they matter, that their love matters, and that their coming out is important even if it is scary. Thank you for making a grown man cry!

To anyone debating on if this will be a good read/listen, just add it to your playlist - you will not be disappointed!
