Publisher's Summary

There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I've gotten what I came for.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

In Daughter of the Pirate King, debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a thrilling YA pirate tale.

What the critics say

"Narrator Marisa Calin smoothly manages the romantic adventure with a rhythm and cadence that keep listeners alert and involved. ...Alosa is an attractive and complex character, and Calin gives her a strong confident tone. Listeners will certainly want to hear more of her adventures, so it's good news that a second audiobook is planned." -AudioFile

"Readers should rejoice, because we now have a lady Jack Sparrow on our hands! Daughter of the Pirate King kidnapped my interest from the first chapter and never let it go! It's a superior debut with a deeply entangled romance, a fearsome heroine not to be trifled with, a clever hero that you seriously want to trifle with, and a plot twist that makes a rollercoaster seem stable. With a cunning plot, robust writing, and complicated characters, any reader will enjoy being manipulated in Levenseller's capable hands. Definitely for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, fierce heroines, slow-burning romances, and adventures that can turn sour in the space of a gasp. Not for fans of complacent heroines, soothing plots, or those who don't speak sarcasm." -- Anna Banks, author of the New York Times Bestseller Of Triton

" Levenseller has created a formidable female character who can take care of herself as she makes some hard decisions. Hand to skilled readers seeking true adventure with swashbuckling, sword fighting, and a great problem-solving heroine." —School Library Journal

Absolutely loved it.

I’m a sucker for a good strong willed heroine but Alosa really kicked it up a notch with her scheming and pocket full of tricks. #Audible1

Amazing story, reader and twists!

I loved the way the story was read and how the voices changed for each character. The names of the people and the sheer amount of them made it a bit hard to keep track of, but the voices for each character made it much easier to follow.

For Tweens

The plot was predictable with unrealistic characters that had unrealistic skills. I call this kind of book a "junk-food novel." There's not much thinking involved but someone between the age of 8-13 would have fun with it.

Flop! Only good thing about it was Marisa Calin.

The worst thing about this book was the plot. Wait, there wasn't really a plot, so, I guess the characters. More specifically, the main character. I gave it two stars only because of the premise and the first chapter...which was the only remotely decent chapter. The plot drags readers through the kidnapping of the terribly unlikeable daughter of the infamous pirate king. To deal with middle sag in the predictable and lame plot, the writer simply has the protagonist make stupid choices that were utterly unrealistic. Like, oh, maybe I'll pretend to escape because that's what a kidnapping victim would do. And in order to facilitate her unrealistic escapes, she has her carry an enormous wardrobe filled with tools. (yeah, because kidnappers always let their victims bring trunks filled with books and clothes...okay??) Anyone who gave this anything over two stars was lying. Also, PARENTS!!! This book is NOT appropriate for a younger audience, because of course, there are several attempted rapes. Can we please stop doing this in books? Honestly, it's not only lazy writing, it's offensive.
Though the premise and the title promise a pirate adventure, that is far from what you get. I would relisten to try to find something redeeming to say, but I think I'll go watch something more interesting, like grass growing.
Sorry Tricia Levenseller, this one was a flop.
