Publisher's Summary
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage (The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.
This epic, exuberant novel is one of the greatest coming-of-age stories in literature, chronicling David Copperfield's extraordinary journey through life as he encounters villains, saviors, eccentrics, and grotesques - including the wicked Mr. Murdstone, stouthearted Peggotty, formidable Betsey Trotwood, impecunious Micawber, and the odious Uriah Heep. Dickens' great novel (based, in part, on his own boyhood and which he described as a "favorite child") is a work filled with life, both comic and tragic.
Listen to Richard Armitage bring Dickens' words to life, and you'll understand why Virginia Woolf called David Copperfield "the most perfect of all the Dickens novels".

Great Story
I would never have read this as a book but Richard Armitage the narrator brought this book to life for me. It will stay with me a while, it was a wonderful story of a time past which I could visualize quite beautifully!

What a performance!
If I could give higher marks for the performance I would. The broad range of characters were all voiced to perfection. Some were quite hilarious (the elder Spenlow sisters!).
The story is typical Dickens grand storytelling. I listen to audiobooks while I work (as a painter) and this riveting book kept me tethered to my easel for many long hours.

Excellent
This is a classic tale from Charles Dickens. Poor boy fighting his way through the world, meeting people and living his life the best way he can. Richard Armitage is an excellent narrator. His changes in character, accent, etc., is wonderful. He really brings the individual characters to life in such a way as to create images in the listener's mind as to what the character looks like and acts like.

Great writing. Great reading.
The story is full of wonderful characters and intriguing situations for them to struggle with as life conveys them all forward. Human nature is so well observed. The reader does every character justice, bringing out the depth of feeling, gentle humour and even scrutiny of motives. Loved every minute.

Wonderful way of enjoying a timeless classic
Richard Armitage is AMAZING ! His wonderful interpretation of all of Dickens colorful characters could have not been better rendered. Even the parts of the story that are a bit tedious are made lighter by his narration.

Wholesome, would recommend
The book is long but oh so wholesome. The plot is steady, the way Charles entices empathy from the reader for all his characters from stern to loopy is magical. The narrator brought the words to life, I'm very happy to have spent my time on this novel.

A real classic
I had no idea I would enjoy this book so much...the narrator is absolutely top notch, doing all the characters in different voices, and never mixing them up or making a mistake in tone, and of all the authors books that I have read, this one is the best. I read in a review that this was Charles Dicken’s favourite of all his books, and I can see why.

Splendid
I have long, long been an admirer of Dickens, and have read David Copperfield several times. This audio version has been a delightful expansion of that experience. Mr. Armitage not only perfectly portrays the title character but creates a large and diverse parcel of highly distinctive voices for the multitude of other characters in this extraordinary work of art. Some of them appear at wide intervals, but each voice is instantly recognizable. He even manages to lay a patina of old age on some that turn up near the end. Remarkable.
