Publisher's Summary
Keep the door locked.
Sam is excited to spend a week at her uncle's remote lake cabin. It's a chance for her to focus on her art without distractions: no neighbors, no phone, and a small radio as her only contact with the outside world.
But there's something deeply unnatural lingering in the lake.
The radio's news reports talk about disappearances on a nearby hiking trail. The car won't start. And Sam starts to believe she's being stalked when she catches glimpses of a tall, strange man standing at the end of her dock, staring intently into the swirling waters below.

The woods aren’t for everyone
Like do many 80’s thriller movies there is a remote location and unexplained things happening. The heroine of the story does not disappoint on her ability up make matters worse. The narration is good and holds interest through out its telling. It’s a perfect book to listen to while you drive down that roadway leading to places unknown,.

Good book but not my cup of tea
I didn't finish the entire book. When I got to the part where I realized it was not a paranormal book, but a book about a serial killer, I stopped reading. From the description of the book, I thought it was going to be a paranormal book which it turned out to definitely not be. However, the parts of the book I listened to, were really good.

Predictible but Still Very Good
I am a true horror fan and over the last few years I have become disenchanted with the genre because not much can scare me these days. After finding Darcy Coates' books I was hoping she would all change all of that. After I finished listening to Craven Manor, my first Darcy Coates audiobook, I wanted more of the thrills and chills she had to offer, so I purchased Dead Lake immediately. I was hoping to be afraid a little but I don't believe this book was meant to be scary at all. The writing was very good and the characters were fully fleshed out and the plot, even though predictable it was very good. I was on the edge of my seat and found myself screaming at my player thinking I was helping our protagonist out a little bit, but all I wound up with was a sore throat.
Nicky Phillips did a great job at narrating and I would love to listen to more of her projects. Dead Lake didn't scare me at all. There weren't even any chills that I can remember BUT it was still a great book and I recommend it to everyone 16 and older.

Very good read
although this was slow in spots, it was a very well written story. there were some good twists within the telling of this tale and I highly recommend it to fans of paranormal short stories.

Main character was boring
Didn't get invested in the main character at all. She wasn't complex at all and not enough backstory. She kept making bad decisions so I eventually didn't care what happened to her. Good thing the book was short.

A great supernatural story
Contains just enough suspense, horror, unanswered questions and ghosts to appeal to all readers. The characters were well written and the setting was perfectly written. The narrator did a wonderful job.

Dead Lake
Anything but a dead lake. Loved the narrative of an artist speaking through more than words.
