Publisher's Summary

A 1920s murder mystery - death in the desert with intrigue, adventure, and a dog of distinction.

There's a damsel in distress and accusations of attempted murder flying around, but it's not in the comfortable confines of the English countryside; it's in the very distant city of Damascus.

Lennox must go and investigate, although he's not too keen on exotic locations, and his old retainer Greggs is distinctly averse to the very idea. Nevertheless, ex-Chief Inspector Swift persuades them, and they reach the ancient city to discover a movie crew, a spy, and a couple of mysterious ladies.

Nobody seems to be telling the truth. They all have secrets, and there's one secret in particular that's drawn them like bees to the honeypot. But what is it? And then, there's murder, and mysteries from the ancient past and a handsome sheik who remains in the shadows.

Heathcliff Lennox and Swift must investigate and use all their ingenuity to unravel the enigma that lies hidden deep below the dusty streets of ancient Damascus.

Major Heathcliff Lennox is an ex-WW 1 war pilot, six feet and three inches, unruly dark blond hair, age around 30 - named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother - much to his great annoyance. Death in Damascus is the fourth book in the Lennox series.

A great cozy series.

The best thing about these books, is they deliver exactly what they are supposed to deliver. No more and no less, with truly outstanding production and performance.

Not bad, not bad

I have enjoyed listening to this and the other Heathcliff Lennox books with a MAJOR exception. Especially in Death in Damascus, and especially towards the end of the book, the grammar practically falls apart. It is advised that the editor/author brush up on the difference between "lie" and "lay", and remember that "I" is subjective and "me" is objective! These egregious errors are like fingernails on a blackboard to me and are particularly surprising as the first two books seemed to be free of these errors.
All that being said, I'm looking forward to book 5.

Another great mystery from Karen Menuhin. Sam Dewhurst-Phillips makes the characters come to life. I can't wait for the next adventures of Major Lennox.

Another Engaging Heathcliff Lennox Mystery

I love the characters, plot and narrative in the book even more than the first three in the series. The setting in Damascus of 1921 provides for an interesting backdrop and Ms Menuhin has managed to evoke another era with great charm. I can't wait for the next book.

Love this Series

This is such a fun series....for me it's a little reminiscent of PG Wodehouse ; the Jeeves & Wooster escapades. I'm looking forward to the 5th book already. I also appreciate the historical research Ms. Menuhin adds to her books. And the narration is SUPERB. Highly recommend.

Major Lennox is back!

I absolutely adore this series, and Death in Damascus does not disappoint!! Engaging mystery and excellent narrator per usual. I waited for the Audible version to be released - thank you Mr. Dewhurst-Phillips! I love Lennox, Swift, Greggs and Tommy Jenkins too, and can't wait to hear what they get mixed up in next time!!

Favorite series, yes I mean that.

I love every character here. I love that Lennox isn’t perfect and has his awkward moments, even though he always finds the answers. Swift is the serious detective, and Lennox is his balance getting him to slow down and curb impulsive conclusions... or to take a cup of tea and cake. And then there’s the bit of romance to the adventure: what’s next for Persie and Lennox (not Heathcliff, old stick). Add a butler, a hunting dog who hates dead things, and a dead actress in Damascus, and you have the latest adventure.

Sam Dewhurst-Phillips makes this series perfect. I always here a distinct individual character in my mind as he narrates. I never have a question as to which character is speaking in dialogue. I don’t hear slips in dialect or loss of a character’s voice or reading as the wrong character as I do with some readers. I could listen to him narrate all day...and have when binge listening!
