Publisher's Summary

It's June in Montreal, and Dr. Temperance Brennan, who has left a shaky marriage back home in North Carolina to take on the challenging assignment of Director of Forensic Anthropology for the province of Quebec, looks forward to a relaxing weekend in beautiful Quebec City. First, though, she must stop at a newly uncovered burial site in the heart of the city. The remains are probably old and only of archeological interest, but Tempe must make sure they're not a case for the police.

One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells her she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab. Something about the crime scene is familiar to Tempe: the stashing of the body parts; the meticulous dismemberment. As a pattern continues to emerge, Tempe calls upon all her forensic skills, including bone, tooth/dental, and bitemark analysis and x-ray microflourescence to convince the police that the cases are related and to try to stop the killer before he strikes again.

Told with lacerating authenticity and passion, Déjà Dead is both poignant and terrifying as it hurtles toward its breathtaking conclusion and instantly catapults Kathy Reich into the top ranks of crime authors.

What the critics say

"Accomplished and chilling." ( People)
"Kathy Reichs knows how to put all [of her] exotic experience into a novel....Quebec's own Southern gal give[s] Cornwell a run for the money." (Margaret Cannon, Globe and Mail)
"What makes Déjà Dead so compelling, in addition to the authoritative descriptions of how a forensic scientist 'reads' the story the bones tell, is the character of Brennan - smart, persistent, gutsy, ironic yet vulnerable." (Judy Stoffman, Toronto Star)

Entertaining

Not overly complicated but enjoyable non the less! They sure didn’t use much of the original character for the tv show Bones! Couldn’t be more different lol.

Amazing book!

I've watched all seasons of Bones previous to know it even came from books! this really gave me a good picture of where the idea came from and how the author gave input on the show.

first listen to kathy reichs

my mom read all of kathy reichs books so I wanted to give it a try! the story itself was pretty good. being a biologist myself its nice when there is scientific accuracy. i didnt like the narrator though. I am from montreal and french canadian and her accent just straight up sucks. for exemple, Gabby is supposed to have a quebecois accent and she sounded like she was from minnesota. anyways. other then that I enjoyed my experience!

Not the same as the tv show

An interesting read but a different character than the tv show. The violence reminds me more of GOT than Bones.

pretty good book!

took me a bit to get into it, and if you are one who has certain sounds they cant deal with, listen to this as fast as you can and still understand it.. others it's a good book!. narrator is a little breathy when listening at standard speeds

Very Enjoyable with Audible!

Been wanting to purchase this novel for some time; Not sorry I bought this with Audible. Great story read by a dramatic narrator. She made it really enjoyable during my lockdown; might be better than television.

Irritating narration

Excellent book. Narrator keeps taking these really deep breaths and it’s beyond annoying. I made it through, but have to warn others.

Hearing the narrator take breathes between sentences. Turned me off the book.

I really didn’t like the narrator’s performance of the book. It was
Overdone and hearing her take her breath after many of her sentences was distracting and took away from the book. I am finding the book itself to be slow getting to the point while listening to graphic explanations of the manner in which victims were killed. And the narrator taking her a French vocabulary to an over-done accent considering this is set in Quebec rather than Paris.
