Publisher's Summary

The best-selling author of Daemon returns with a near-future technological thriller, in which a charismatic billionaire recruits a team of adventurers to launch the first deep space mining operation - a mission that could alter the trajectory of human civilization.

When itinerant cave diver James Tighe receives an invitation to billionaire Nathan Joyce's private island, he thinks it must be a mistake. But Tighe's unique skill set makes him a prime candidate for Joyce's high-risk venture to mine a near-Earth asteroid - with the goal of kick-starting an entire off-world economy. The potential rewards and personal risks are staggering, but the competition is fierce, and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Isolated and pushed beyond their breaking points, Tighe and his fellow 21st-century adventurers - ex-soldiers, former astronauts, BASE jumpers, and mountain climbers - must rely on each other to survive not only the dangers of a multi-year expedition but the harsh realities of business in space. They're determined to transform humanity from an Earth-bound species to a space-faring one - or die trying.

Another good book from Daniel Suarez

I really enjoyed the story and the concepts presented in this book, and once again I could tell Daniel Suarez put a lot of research into it. I always appreciate when I can learn new things (ie. science, tech) from a fictional story. The only negative point I can say is it sometimes felt difficult to pay attention during very detailed descriptions of things. It is a very technical book and although this is his style, at times I didn't find it interesting enough to keep me captivated. Jeff Gurner as always did an excellent job narrating, speaking clearly and using a variety of character voices and accents.

A Heart Pounding Read!

Couldn't put it down, the amount of rush and tension you experience from the harsh reaches of space is to insane to comprehend but delta v does one hell of a job portraying it!

Great book !

I can’t wait for the follow up!!! Excellent story, great reading. Wandered a bit in the middle, but end is great. Wish there was a little more closure but I guess that’s for the second book!

Just the way I like sci-fi!

Near future, lots of totally plausible engineering. Maybe not the most realistic character development around, but that’s unsurprising for the genre.

One of my favourites

Title covers it. I’ve listened to it 3 times now, the last time because the sequel was being released. I’m a fan of all of Suarez’ books, but I believe this is the best.

Good book, but very slow

I have enjoyed all of Daniels books. This is the first one that I have felt it drags a bit at different points.

I would best describe this book to be much like the Apple 13 movie. It has moments of action, it is interesting, but it is slow moving.

Overall it was a good book. I do hope Daniels next one is a little more up action though and perhaps a topic a little more interesting.
