Publisher's Summary

The planet of Caliban exists much as it has for thousands of years - the knightly orders protect the common people, fighting back the beasts that lurk in the depths of the seemingly endless forests.

Young Zahariel and Nemiel aspire to join the greatest of the orders, led by the example of mighty Lion El'Jonson and his vision of a peaceful and unified world. But the coming of the Imperium brings new concerns and a new destiny for the Lion as part of the Great Crusade, and the sons of Caliban must decide if they will follow him to glory among the stars.

The epic continuation of an amazing series

Narration was superb, as well as an amazing story. An awesome chapter of the Horus Heresy.

Doesn't belong in the HH saga imo

Great book and narration, however this is just background lore to the Dark Angel's... it could have been a standalone.

it's okay but not Warhammer

the overall story is good, but its not 30k this is a fantasy story. A good story but doesn't add anything to the HH series. In my opinion you could skip this book and just move on in the series without really missing anything.

A great entry point

I loved it, I consider it a great entry point into the universe of Warhammer 30k/40k. As it introduces you to the wider universe and themes much more slowly as it is introduced to the character we follow.

From Dark Ages, to Dark Angels.

Great book. Following the brothers from the dark ages of Caliban to the modernization of the Imperials. I looked forward to my drive to work everyday because of this book.

Made me a fan of a once hated faction

Was never a fan of the dark angel but was recommended this book by a friend and I have to say it may be one of my new favorites.

Astartes don't sound like 9 year old boys.

How in the hell did the narrator think it was a good idea to keep the same voice for the boys that he did at the start of the story.

The listeners aren't stupid. We could figure out the voice change...

Good story, I wish there was more action with the primarch.

Another banger for the heresy series!

I swear, Gareth Armstrong’s narration is one of the reasons I was instantly hooked by 40k novels. Great to learn about the origins of the Dark Angels, their home world, and of course the Lion! Aside from that another fantastic entry for the heresy series - thoroughly enjoying my slow- albeit steady - progression through this series, and glad to be immersed into this universe so many years later when I used to collect figures as a child.
