Publisher's Summary

The Destruction of Black Civilization took Chancellor Williams 16 years of research and field study to compile. The book, which was to serve as a reinterpretation of the history of the African race, was intended to be "a general rebellion against the subtle message from even the most liberal white authors and their Negro disciples: 'You belong to a race of nobodies. You have no worthwhile history to point to with pride.'"

The book was written at a time when many Black students, educators, and scholars were starting to piece together the connection between the way their history was taught and the way they were perceived by others and by themselves. They began to question assumptions made about their history and took it upon themselves to create a new body of historical research.

The book is premised on the question: If the Blacks were among the very first builders of civilization and their land the birthplace of civilization, what has happened to them that has left them, since then, at the bottom of world society? Precisely, what happened?

The Caucasian answer is simple and well known: The Blacks have always been at the bottom." Williams, instead, contends that many elements - nature, imperialism, and stolen legacies - have aided in the destruction of the Black civilization.

The Destruction of Black Civilization is revelatory and revolutionary because it offers a new approach to the research, teaching, and study of African history by shifting the main focus from the history of Arabs and Europeans in Africa to the Africans themselves. The book, thus, offers "a history of blacks that is a history of blacks".

"Because, only from history can we learn what our strengths were and, especially, in what particular aspect we are weak and vulnerable. Our history can then become at once the foundation and guiding light for united efforts in serious planning what we should be about now."

Much respect to the author of this masterpiece

I would highly recommend reading/listening to this book together with "The African Origin Of Civilization - Myth or Reality" by Cheik Anta Diop.

Great research and truth about African History.

This book did absolute justice to unearth the true history of a people whose past was hidden in the millennium of lies and systemic suppression by Europeans. Great research, well laid out evidences and truths untold. However, the narrator (Joseph Kent) was an utter disappointment! A sheer display of unprofessionalism and levity. Good books like this one should not end up in the hands of those who still think that Africans are just average.

Intense Research

This book is a great reference tool and puts a great perspective on what happened to black people throughout history. We now have data and better information to the contrary of many notions Chancellor Williams posited in this compilation. To all involved in this book and it's research I say thank you.

Completely different perspective on human history.

Really enjoyed the book. Lots of prisoners suggested it to me. Shines a new light on race relation in history and the problem and events of the past still incredibly relevant.

The narrator was great but he says the f word by mistake in the last chapter of the book and it was not edited out. The editing was not good.

Such an amazing book but…

The narrator, a white man, had a great voice to read the work, but his professionalism was disgusting. He made many disrespectful mistakes thought-out the reading of the book, and he even cussed near the end of the book. I’m disappointed that Audible world allows this blatant disrespect, especially when this book is about education, building self-respect and honour among “black” people.

The book should have been re-recorded, BUT I still highly recommend that everyone read and listen to it, just be forewarned.

Peace and light 🖤

I wish I had’ve read the hard copy

This book has some great and interesting information but the narrator is awful and his performance wasn’t edited at all so it’s full of grunts and restarts and even a curse word at one point. Can’t imagine how this was published like this.
