Publisher's Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Parker S. Huntington comes an enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn romance full of revenge and a dash of fate.

"She could enjoy her pretty, perfect world a little longer. Soon enough, everything she owned would be mine."

I had a plan to escape the friend zone. Step one: sneak into Reed’s room. Step two: sleep with him.

But when the lights turned on, it wasn’t familiar blue eyes I saw. These were dark, angry, and full of demons. And they belonged to Reed’s much-older brother.

Four years later, Nash Prescott is no longer the help’s angry son. I’m no longer the town’s prized princess. At 22, I’m broke, in need of a job. At 32, he’s a billionaire, in need of revenge. Who cares if my family ruined his? Who cares if he looks at me with pure loathing? Who cares if every task he assigns me is designed to torture? I need the money. Simple as that. I’ll suffer his cruelty in silence, knowing there’s one thing he wants more than revenge. Me.

Please note: This is a full-length stand-alone novel in the Cruel Crown world.

contemporary romance

Devious lies is a decent romance, if you enjoy contemporary romance it's good. It runs a little long and slow at times. Unpopular opinion: Sebastion York makes me think of John Wayne in every novel, and I just cant get past it or immerse myself in the character he is portraying. He's not a bad narrator at all, but I just can't get past the voice and imagining John Wayne swooning a 20 year old. I enjoy his work in non-romance novels, as opposed to a romantic interest.

Loved it from beginning to the end

Loved this story from beginning to the end. Fell in love with the characters. Sexy hot male versus strong but gentle female.
The story line will have you hooked. A definite recommend.

Narration was on point which is the only reason I stayed with this book. After the first hour the middle portion dragged horribly with mostly the internal diatribe of the female lead. Skip to the point where there was only about 4hrs remaining and it got good again - I even cried during part of the ending (a good cry).
It would have been a much easier to listen to book had the middle been more compressed.
So 1/3 of the book is pretty good.

Holy Smoke - that sexy masculine voice!!

I enjoy PSH's style of writing and the way she tells a story. But hell--Sebastian York's superlative narration is what brings it home for me. His voice is transcendent and it brings anything he narrates to life. DK did a decent job but I found Nash's chapters more captivating and enjoyable.

Too drawn out

The reason I stuck with this book was Sebastian York. The book is drawn out way more than needed and I think Emery comes off as a little crazy. Good story but a shorter version would be be better.

The side characters ruined it

It kinda fell flat.
Too much time spent on hating each other.
The characters being willfully stubborn got old quick
The side story with the LI’s brother kinda made things weird with the female MC especially with a whole no explanation of why anyone would put up with that character . And his LI was just annoying they seemed like unlikable people that the MC hated
The sex scenes were ok (not really steamy) and there were too many fake or made up steamy scenes (in characters minds)
If you don’t like when books repeat themselves this book will annoy you.

I think it had potential but like I said when I got closer to the end I was telling myself…. Really thats how you resolved it?

drags on

I really enjoy this author, but this title dragged on and on. This could of easily have been told in 300 pages. There was too much filler in between. Very long and boring listen. I was not impressed !
