Story
For years, the Trader cities valiantly battled their enemies, the Chalcedeans. But they could not have staved off invasion without the powerful dragon, Tintaglia. In return, the Traders promised to help her serpents migrate up the Rain Wild River after a long exile at sea - to find a safe haven and, Tintaglia hopes, to restore her species. But too much time has passed, and the newly hatched dragons are damaged and weak, and many die.

Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th-century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trades she uses to get by - palm readings, zars, and a mysterious gift for healing - are all tricks, both the means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles and a reliable way to survive. But when Nahri accidentally summons Dara, an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior, to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to reconsider her beliefs.

Taking place nearly a century before the events of A Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R. R. Martin's ongoing masterwork, A Song of Ice and Fire. Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne, there were Dunk and Egg. A young, naïve, but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals - in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg - whose true name (hidden from all he and Dunk encounter) is Aegon Targaryen.

An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Too many sexual scenes.
I really like the idea of the story but this book dwelt a lot on Cedric and I didn't enjoy his part. I felt the sexual scenes were gratuitous with him and others.

The story is great!
but the narration is not great. not great at all. Robin Hobb hasn't written a story I don't like but I wish I could get a refund for the already purchased audibles and buy them from a bookstore or for kindle or something. The narrator makes me feel like I'm sitting on the floor listening to a story before nap time.

This book series of 16 books was recommended as a fantastic series online…and it’s just progressively getting worse. I don’t care about any of the characters. Nothing happened in this book… everything could’ve been covered in two pages, exceedingly boring.

Disappointing storyline; too much explicit sex!
started as an intriguing and well-crafted story in the "Live Ship Traders" trilogy, fell far short in this washed-out and diminished "Rain Wild Chronicles" series. The storyline was too often weak and much too drawn out in overdramatization. Some of her characters were enjoyable, and morphed into exceptional growth throughout the story. But too many other characters lacked their promised potential, becoming instead rather petty and unlikeable characters that I quickly lost interest in.
The author spent an over exorbitant amount of time emphasizing her character's sexual exploits rather than on the development of her dragons and their characterization. And to the author's discredit, both to her characters and to her craft, the constant display, and the many lewd and crude comments the author slipped into this story regarding those sexual exploits, left me feeling dirty and uncomfortable, to the extent that I no longer have any interest in ever reading any more of Robin Hobb's work.

Unrealized Potential
Great performance by the reader, but the story got bogged down in interpersonal relationships, making the plot drag. It started to be more like a torrid romance than I like. I'm trying to decide if I read book 3.
