Publisher's Summary

Lose weight, boost your metabolism, and start living a happier life with this transformative 30-day plan for healthy eating from the host of the hit podcast The Model Health Show.

Food is complicated. It's a key controller of our state of health or disease. It's a social centerpiece for the most important moments of our lives. It's the building block that creates our brain, enabling us to have thought, feeling, and emotion. It's the very stuff that makes up our bodies and what we see looking back at us in the mirror. Food isn't just food. It's the thing that makes us who we are. So why does figuring out what to eat feel so overwhelming?

In Eat Smarter, nutritionist, best-selling author, and number-one-ranked podcast host Shawn Stevenson breaks down the science of food with a 30-day program to help you lose weight, reboot your metabolism and hormones, and improve your brain function. Most importantly, he explains how changing what you eat can transform your life by affecting your ability to make money, sleep better, maintain relationships, and be happier. Eat Smarter will empower you and make you feel inspired about your food choices, not just because of the impact they have on your weight, but because the right foods can help make you the best version of yourself.

Typical popular misleading nutritional advice

From the first couple of chapters it seemed like this book had a promise of something original. However it became evident rather quickly that the author simply preaches the same beat up concept of the fiber's importance in our diet as most everybody else. The latest anthropological data as well as the observations of the Hadza hunter-gatherers tribe do not confirm the presence of fiber on our ancestral diet. On top of that, the author appears to be completely unaware of the hazardous anti-nutrients, such as lectins, oxalates and others present in the variety of plant foods he recommends for the sake of the fiber consumption. A huge disappointment! This book is no different than the 99% of the books on nutrition that keep massaging the popular but wrongful nutritional misconceptions about the role of the plant-based foods in human diet.

Excellent information to tweak your way of eating!

I will be re-reading this many times over. It is packed full of information.
I have enjoyed learning the new recipes to tweek my lifelong lifestyle of better food choices for body and brain. I always knew there was a colleration between the body issues like degenerative disc disease being related to incompatible food choices but it wasn't until I heard the research that backed up my own suspicions. Now I am so glad I stumbled upon this book it's definitely appeared at the right time.

Great book, but better to read in print

Will buy this book in print and use as reference book. It has good content but hard to retain in audio format.

Similes were a big miss

Shawn wrote a fantastic book in terms of the quality of information that is provided. He has clearly done his research and there are awesome nutrition suggestions in here. He also does a great job with his narration; he's got a voice for radio and reading his own work is clearly something he loves doing.
My only issue with this book is that Shawn tries WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY too hard to come up with humourous (sorry, I'm Canadian) similes to illustrate points for the readers and he makes far too many pop culture and sports references that will mean nothing to many readers. Shawn and I are around the same age and we have similar interests, so I understood each witty comparison or reference that he made, but they took away from the quality of the information and I often missed information because I was trying to make sense of why certain comparisons/similes/references were in there. There are so many of them that it was a constant annoyance and once I realized that the whole book was going to be full of them, I was a bit disappointed.
Shawn prides himself of keeping up with all the current cutting-edge science and he's a very good writer. The attempted comedy took away from the authority that I expected from him. Nonetheless, I still appreciate the work that he put into the book and it is a helpful nutrition resource.

Exceptionally Informative

I love the informative content in this books when it comes to true wellness and real sustainable fat loss . So much of this information is not in the awareness of people and it truly should be. Tons of science backed facts, research and tools for proven results. You can feel the passion in the book. Truly serves a mission for healthier happier people.
