Publisher's Summary

The multiple-award-winning science-fiction master returns to the universe that is his greatest triumph - the world of Hyperion and The Fall ofHyperion - with a novel even more magnificent than its predecessors.

Dan Simmons's Hyperion was an immediate sensation on its first publication in 1989. This staggering multifaceted tale of the far future heralded the conquest of the science-fiction field by a man who had already won the World Fantasy Award for his first novel (Song of Kali) and had also published one of the most well-received horror novels in the field, Carrion Comfort. Hyperion went on to win the Hugo Award as Best Novel, and it and its companion volume, The Fall of Hyperion, took their rightful places in the science-fiction pantheon of new classics.

Here, Simmons returns to this richly imagined world of technological achievement, excitement, wonder and fear. Endymion is a story about love and memory, triumph and terror - an instant candidate for the field's highest honors.

The Dying Earth

I feel Dan Simmons was being prophetic when he wrote Martin Silenus' accounts of writing volume after volume of 'The Dying Earth.' he had even described a young girl with amazing powers in once of those books...

Following the strength and philosophical depth of Hyperion, this book really fell short for me. The plot was boring and the dialog between characters was often juvenile at best. I LOVED Hyperion. This fell short. (I'm shocked it's gotten so many good reviews)

Not a fan of story

I knew this wasn’t exactly a sequel to Hyperion, so that’s not why I’m not into it. I just didn’t get the Dan Simmons “feel” I usually get. That’s ok, he’s still awesome.

One of the all time best..

Lordy how I wish they would make a good movie out of these books... The writing really makes you picture scenes and characters in your mind and is fully immersive. The story could easily lean towards being boring and drawn out but it successfully manages to avoid that somehow! I really loved this book.. And the new antagonist is one of the best bad guys (girl) I have come across in the story.. Truly creepy and imposing!

Can't wait to get into the next one.

Performance wise I actually forgot it was only one person doing all voices.. Does an excellent job of switching up voices for characters without sounding campy.

Long, but it needs that time

The story is quite long, but it needs that time to develop, and it doesn't drag.

wonderful story, better than expected

Other reviews lowered my expectations I suppose. I enjoyed this story, period. No more complicated than that.

Optional headline

It isn't Hyperion. It is still a great story in the same universe, remembering characters from the past with new characters. A new story that stands great on its own. I miss the multi voice acting from the first book, but this one is still well done.

Unfortunately disappointing next part of the series

I am a massive fan of Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion. I found them both to be incredible stories that were mind-blowingly creative and narratively excellent. Unfortunately, I found Endymion to be quite lacking. Raul is not an interesting character and the parts of the book with his story drag quite a bit.

Great narration

Far less if any at all of the first two books gore and violence and sex that I found unappealing. This one seems more mature. Love it
