Publisher's Summary
From the best-selling author of Hoodlum comes a novel about one of the deadliest women to ever grace the streets of Harlem - Eve.
The only family Eve Panelli has ever known is the infamous Twenty Gang. Orphaned as a small child, Eve quickly learned the art of the hustle, and by age 17 she had spent two years in prison. But now Eve is 18, back on the streets of Harlem with her gang, and up to one of her old tricks: strong-arm robbery. Despite her edge, she's got a soft spot for Felon, the up-and-coming street king.
Eve's life takes a serious turn when the powerful DeNardi family, the city's biggest drug supplier, tries to tighten its hold on Harlem. And when Eve's best friend, Cassidy, is murdered in the crossfire, Eve seeks revenge - starting all the way at the top.

Not what I expected.
I think Eve's character could have been more pronounced. Kwan is used to making men the hero and he just couldn't help himself. Eve was written as a sub character when she is supposed to be the leading lady. We should have gone on a journey with her. Help us understand and connect with her. Everything that happened came as an after thought. Or a recant... I just wanted more.

NOT Adam's Eve
What made the experience of listening to Eve the most enjoyable?
Hmmm, I found this book to be good but limited. It played on the same old tale of youth trying to live the American dream by any illegal means necessary. The title of the book is not reflective of the story. Even though Eve's character was strong, the book spotlighted so many other characters it got overshadowed. Leaving me at times wondering who's the main character and where was this story going... I guess to sum everything up, the characters had potential but the story wasn't creative...

love Cary Hyte narration and Kwan writing
the ending was heart breaking but I am glad Everett found peace. I wish she and Felon could have found happiness. Sad ending.

Just Okay
The book was just okay for entertianment purposes. As usual the narrator Cary Hite brings the characters to life. Not my favorite by Kwan but it is an okay book to pass the time.
