About this listen
Miller Spurlock might seem like a laid back man on the outside, but piss him off, or violate his trust, and he'll show you the meaning of pain.
He was a Navy SEAL. He could kill a man a hundred different ways and not break a sweat.
He's also a police officer and member of the SWAT team, which means he has the knowledge and skills to get away with it.
Rage boils in his gut when he witnesses what happens to the beautiful Mercy Shepherd during a SWAT op from hell that even his worst nightmare couldn't conjure up. And it surprises the hell out of him when she wants him, and him only, to comfort her in the aftermath.
Miller becomes the one shining beacon of light at the bottom of Mercy's pit of despair.
The one man that could pull her through the rough days ahead and make her whole again.
And during her road back to herself, she realizes that she's got the one thing she ever wanted in life...a hero to call her own.
Contains mature themes.

Quick, enjoyable story
Definitely check your trigger warnings before going into this one. While the story isn't super graphic, it does discuss SA (not by the MMC). Miller is the ultimate green flag. Sweet, caring and determined to do anything he can for Mercy after she experiences something no one should ever have to deal with. During the aftermath of her assault, which Miller has the misfortune of witnessing as part of his job as a SWAT officer, Mercy clings to the man who made her feel safe at her worst moment. While she is a very strong woman, relying on Miller helps her recover from this trauma. Learning to trust her own instincts again proves to be a challenge, but he is there for her showing her that he can be her strength when she is struggling.
Overall this was an emotional but good read. I really liked both Miller and Mercy and the audiobook was done well. Given the sensitive subject matter I was a bit worried about the audiobook sounding either not emotional enough, or too over the top. It was handled with the right balance.

It was good
Overall, I didn't like this book. The story was way too forced. I didn't like Mercy too much, I felt like she was lacking some development as a character. Miller was just like all the other MMC of the series, so nothing much there either.

Wow
This book was terrible. poorly developed characters with no chemistry and the agenda being pushed down your throat is impressive.
